Calling all Dwarves, Elves, Hobbits and Wizards, you are hereby invited to ‘Ringers take Disneyland’ on Saturday, March 1 as part of the Oscar weekend festivities for fans of Middle-earth. Disneyland has been the site for Star Wars days, Potter Days, Browncoat Days and more, so why not fans of Middle-earth?
Here at TORn headquarters, we began to wonder what else we could do on Oscar weekend apart from our “One Dragon, One Party” that would be fun for locals and out-of-towners alike. LA and Hollywood are a popular tourist destination for dozens of reasons, but we needed a place that everyone wants to go to at least once in their lifetime, and is also family friendly and super fun. Disneyland fits the bill in oh so many ways, not the least of which is the fact that it has Dwarves, a Wizard and Mines, as well as many other Middle-earth-like realms and magical folk.

Come join us for our Feast of Starlight celebration at the historic Cat & Fiddle Restaurant and Pub in Hollywood, CA on Sunday, March 2 for “One Dragon, One Party”. We will be taking over the place and watching the telecast of the 86th annual Academy Awards® Middle-earth style. There will be big screens available in both the main dining room and out on the patio, as well as the mounted televisions located throughout the restaurant. With the nice weather Southern California has been enjoying all winter long, it is a safe bet that viewing on the patio will be a delightful experience, but mind the spiders…

Full details aren’t ready for full disclosure just yet, but should be available very soon. Just crossing the Ts and dotting the Is on booking a venue. We wanted to make sure you knew this was happening today, just as the Oscar Nominations are announced so you can ‘Save the Date’. Here is what we can tell you.
The Oscar party will be held on Sunday, March 2, but then, that date was chosen by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
This will be a viewing party, with dinner, games, auction and raffles, and some geeky fun. That also means it will start in the mid to late afternoon as the Red Carpet telecast gets underway.
Rather than a big fancy party as in years past, we’ve decided to go more casual this year. This is more of an Oscar Moot, a gathering of friends and fans for food, Fellowship and fun. No need for fancy dress, although costumes are always welcome.
The cost will be much more within reach, basically just covering the meal, tax and gratuities.
We are endeavoring to make this family friendly, all ages welcome, so feel free to bring the younglings.
Look for more details in the coming weeks when we issue the formal invite.

John Ronald Reuel Tolkien was born on January 3, 1892 in Bloemfontein, South Africa. To celebrate the birth and life of this much loved author Tolkien fans from around the world are invited to raise a glass and make a toast. In simple terms, you just gather with some friends at a pub, restaurant, cocktail party or bar and at 9pm local time you stand and raise your glass and say the words ‘To the Professor”. And with that, you will be joining together with fans around the world in remembrance of Tolkien and all that he has brought into your life. And if you are unable to join with friends, no worries, pull out your favorite Tolkien book on January 3 and sit and read it and at 9pm you can still perform the Toast on your own. BTW, you don’t have to be drinking alcohol, you could have a glass of water, soda, tea or hot chocolate, whatever feels right to you. What matters is the Toast and acknowledging your love of Tolkien and his words.
In Los Angeles, Tolkien Forever, the local Smial of the Tolkien Society will host their annual Tolkien Toast at the Cat & Fiddle pub in Hollywood.
