We have just received news from Houghton Mifflin that the Alan Lee Book Tour, to promote THE CHILDREN OF HURIN paperback (national release date: October 14) and the brand-new TALES FROM THE PERILOUS REALM, has been canceled. Out of respect for Alan’s privacy, we can only say that he is dealing with a loss in the family. Our condolences to Alan and his family at this time.

Kirsten sends this along: We thought you and other ringers might want to know about an art exhibit we have coming up with Jeremy Bennett (Visual Director on LOTR and King Kong). It opens on Friday October 10th 6-9pm (Jeremy will be at the opening!) here in Seattle. He will be exhibiting seven new paintings based off the work he did on Mordor. Jason writes: I just read in today’s Sunday Times here in the UK, that on April 14th and 15th 2009 the Royal Albert Hall will be showing FOTR in high def while the London Philharmonic will be playing the music to it. At the moment tickets are available to the times subscribers then tickets go on sale after October 14th, I just ordered mine and they are £40 each.
The RAH website does not have tickets available yet, but as soon as they come online we’ll post the link!
The students will be able to explore Tolkien’s Middle-earth from their home, in their own time. They will examine the vast mythology behind The Lord of the Rings and gain a thorough knowledge of Tolkien’s fiction and its creation by focusing on The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings, The Silmarillion and The Children of Húrin. Message board member Beren sends this in: Hello!. I was contacted this weekend by Houghton Mifflin to do a chat session with Alan Lee on the 14th of October. As part of the celebration for the release of the Children of Hurin Paperback in the U.S., Alan will be doing three days of signing, and will come and chat with Tolkien fans on the 14th. Alan has agreed to make some sketches in copies of the paperback to give away. It would be great if people could send in some questions as well. For sure Alan knows stuff on the Hobbit movies that will be of interest to all Tolkien fans!

Word to us has come across the web in regards to the Alan Lee book tour we posted about a little while ago.
The *only* place to get early copies of TALES FROM THE PERILOUS REALM will be at Alan Lee’s bookstore events in October, as well as at Faeriecon — the very first place the book will appear in public. TALES FROM THE PERILOUS REALM will not be in wide release until November, so Alan’s events offer a very special opportunity for fans to be the first to get their hands on copies!
