Word to us has come across the web in regards to the Alan Lee book tour we posted about a little while ago.
The *only* place to get early copies of TALES FROM THE PERILOUS REALM will be at Alan Lee’s bookstore events in October, as well as at Faeriecon — the very first place the book will appear in public. TALES FROM THE PERILOUS REALM will not be in wide release until November, so Alan’s events offer a very special opportunity for fans to be the first to get their hands on copies!
New Hampshire Ringers interested in learning more about the sources of Tolkien’s inspiration should check out the Poetry Society of NH’s celebration of the Kalevala on October 11. There’ll be poetry, music from the Maine Kantele, and Runeberg’s tarts and other Finnish pastries. It’s at 6PM at Artstream, 56 North Main Street, Rochester, NH. The event is free and open to the public. For more information contact poetrysocietyofnh@gmail.com
The Children of Hurin The folks from Houghton Mifflin write: I saw your recent posting about Alan Lee attending FaerieCon in Philadelphia, and I wanted to spread the word that Alan will be visiting a few other U.S. cities to promote THE CHILDREN OF HURIN paperback (national release date: October 14) and the brand-new TALES FROM THE PERILOUS REALM, immediately following his FaerieCon appearance!
As TORn readers know, THE CHILDREN OF HURIN is the first complete book by J.R.R. Tolkien since the 1977 publication of The Silmarillion. It was a #1 New York Times bestseller in hardcover, and the Associated Press called it “the book for which [Tolkien] readers have been longing.” The paperback edition of THE CHILDREN OF HURIN includes eight color paintings by Alan Lee and a two-color fold-out map. Quickbeam writes: This coming Sunday, September 21st, promises to be idyllic for Angelinos gathering in Griffith Park for our Annual Bilbo & Frodo Baggins Birthday Picnic. TORn is also very excited to announce the genesis of new PODCAST episodes that will be shooting live footage during the Los Angeles Picnic!
The Rivendell Group and Minnesota Tolkien Society are hosting a Birthday Party and Tolkien discussion in honor of our favorite hobbits’ birthdays this Saturday at an undisclosed location in the Twin Cities. If you want to have a great conversation about the best topics you can find out more information here.
From Tamara: Well, they might not have been elven boats, but this past weekend, Boston Ringers held a moot at the Boston Public Garden to ride the swan boats together. TORnsibs celebrated Bilbo and Frodo’s birthday early this year, by picnicking in the park and practicing their Galadriel waves from the bridge over the lagoon. More pictures can be seen on the groups Yahoo page, onewhitetree. We are gathering again soon, so keep checking the TORn Moots message boards for updates.
