Looking to snag tickets to The Lord of the Rings Trilogy Extended Edition event taking place this June in a theater near you? While tickets are not officially published until Friday, we’ve managed to secure you a direct link to the ordering page, courtesy of Warner Bro. Studios. Back when the Lord of the Rings films were arriving in theaters each December for three successive years, TheOneRing.net helped organized and supported line party lines around the world.

Things change a lot in a decade, but we want to get in touch with all the line leaders. If you served as a line leader, please get in touch with us at: TORnLineParty@Gmail.com. Put your city in the subject line to help us sort quickly and feel free to remind us inside the email of your efforts and any details you see fit. Thanks!

We’re happy to say that our Founder’s Day 2011 celebration has been a resounding success (see Founder’s Day story below)! Of the many wonderful contributions of the day, one stood out as especially representative of the camaraderie that many of us share as fans of J.R.R. Tolkien, Peter Jackson’s movies, and fantasy in general.  Discussion board member One Ringer put together a wonderful retrospective of fan gatherings to mark the special day. In One Ringer’s own words:

“After twelves years of constant coverage of everything Tolkien, TheOneRing.net stands as the top site for a social gathering for fans of the late Professor and his work. In honor of Founders Day comes the One Slideshow to (hopefully) show many of the great memories that the members of TORn have had in the past years. Click on the link below and watch at your desired video quality. I hope you enjoy.” — One Ringer

We definitely *will* enjoy, One Ringer! Click on the link below to see this wonderful video.

When TheOneRing.net marked its 10th anniversary in 2009, we celebrated in style. In fact, we had such a good time, we decided to continue to celebrate every year on April 26, the date that TORn was established.

Founder’s Day is TheOneRing.net’s official holiday, filled with the best that a virtual party can offer.  If your new(er) to the site, it’s a chance to find out about the roots of the site, about the four founders, and/or just explore the place (hint: start with the links on the left of the page).

If you’ve been around for a bit, it’s a great day to reminisce, tell war stories, and reflect on all the adventures and friendships that have been forged over the years. There will be new things popping up all day on several of the message boards — so don’t be shy! Hunt around, find a party game you like, or a conversation you enjoy, and dive in! Or, join us in Barliman’s chat room.

Here’s to our Founders (from left to right below: Corvar, Xoanon, Tehanu, Calisuri). Happy 12th TORNiversary, TheOneRing.net!

Sir Peter Enjoys Airshow in Blenheim

Aviation nut Sir Peter Jackson took a break from filming his Lord of the Rings prequel to show off his toys at the 10th anniversary of the Classic Fighters Airshow in Blenheim yesterday.

Jackson is a regular spectator at the fundraiser for the Omaka Aviation Heritage Centre, and chief executive Jane Orphan said he had once again been “exceptionally generous”, putting his private collection on display at the centre’s museum.
