Kirsten sends this along: We thought you and other ringers might want to know about an art exhibit we have coming up with Jeremy Bennett (Visual Director on LOTR and King Kong). It opens on Friday October 10th 6-9pm (Jeremy will be at the opening!) here in Seattle. He will be exhibiting seven new paintings based off the work he did on Mordor. The exhibit will be at the Roq La Rue Gallery (2312 2nd Ave Seattle WA 98121), visit www.roqlarue.com for more info or call (206)374-8977. Here is his art statement:
“For me conceptualizing shots in Mordor was a double edged sword, it was at an intense time in the production schedule and there was no room for error. It was fairly stressful to say the least but It seemed that for every problem that needed solving, wonderfully creative solutions were being offered up by all involved…” Continue reading “LOTR/Kong Visual Director Art Show in Seattle”

Alex writes: I visited the Royal Armouries yesterday to see the “Arms and Armour from the Movies: The Wonderful World of Weta” exhibit and attended the fantastic lecture by the great Peter Lyon, Sword smith. Many people came along to hear his speech. He talked initially about his work on the Narnia films and how the process from concept drawings to the fully developed weapon was achieved. Mark writes: Just want to say a big thank you to theonering.net for posting the article about John Howe attending the Edinburgh Book Festival. I was lucky enough to attend the event last night, at which Mr. Howe spoke about his work illustrating for various projects, including of course The Trilogy. The interviewer did ask if he was involved in The Hobbit films in any way, but he only said (understandably) that it was too early to discuss it. We saw a slide show of concept art from the Trilogy in which there were pictures yet unseen in even the “Art of…” book series or DVD special features. The talk was fascinating, and Mr. Howe was not only very open and in-depth about his work, but had a great sense of humour too. A few members of the audience had the opportunity to ask questions as well, and there was even time for autographs and photos at the end. Overall, it was just a great night! Any more posts for events happening in Scotland or in the UK are most welcome!

The Art of Illustrating
