One of the best items from Comic-Con 2014 is coming up for Pre-Order next week.
Smaug the Terrible was so impressive and one of the most detailed statues I’ve ever seen. There has been so much packed into this statue to help recreate the amazing work by Weta Digital in bringing one of Tolkien’s coolest characters to life.
I know for myself, it has been one of the amazing pieces I’ve been eagerly awaiting to become available for order so I could get ready to add it to my collection. So the time has finally come to mark our calendars for next Tuesday, November 11th at 1pm PST. That is when our friends at Weta Workshop will put this superb collectible up for order. Make sure you get your order in so you can be one of the lucky 2000 collectors who will have a chance to have this in your collections.

Today, one of the coolest items unveiled at Comic-con by our friends at Weta Workshop, The Balrog statue, has finally been put up for order.
This mammoth statue, standing 20.5″ tall, 17.5″ wide, with a depth of 11.8″ has an edition size of 1500 pieces world wide. If you Pre-Order this guy right now you can save $50 off the retail price of $650 to get him for $599. He is set to ship during the fourth quarter of this year, which is not too far off for those of you who, like me, hate waiting. So get those orders in now to save some money and a place in line before he sells out!

There are just 3 months remaining until the final chapter of The Hobbit saga and the final bit of Middle-earth on film is released, and new images and story tidbits are going to start coming much quicker now. Earlier today we shared the new scrolling poster for this final chapter and now we have some analysis of what can be seen in it from our staff. Of all the new imagery available, there is still nothing of Dain and the wild War Boar he purportedly rides in on, but this scroll does have a few other new tidbits of info in it that are fun to speculate on.
But first, a little editorial note about these scrolls that most of you have probably already noticed, there is a LOT of photoshop involved in putting these together. They cobble together a vast array of characters and settings in order to tell a miniature 2D story with just a few images, and sometimes the photoshop works well, and sometimes not so much. When it does not work out so well, we’ve taken to calling it FrankenPhotoshop, which can be attributed to any image that makes you scratch your head and wonder ‘wait, who is that?’.
So read on to see the TORn staff reactions to the images selected to be in this Scroll, and then feel free to post your own thoughts below. Continue reading “TORn staff analyze the new scroll poster for The Hobbit: Battle of the Five Armies”
