Director Martin Percy writes: Sir Ian McKellen has created an amazing free interactive video piece for the National Theatre. In it, he talks interactively about the opening speech of Shakespeare’s Richard III (you know, the “Now is the winter of our discontent…” one). He also talk about Shakespeare in general, and asks you the viewer questions like…
“Do you think there’s a link between Shakespeare and modern stories like Lord of the Rings — yes or no?” Continue reading “McKellen in Interactive Video Online”
Janet writes: The hysterical (yet oddly compelling) “Fellowship!” returns to the Los Angeles Farthing in June, playing from June 4 – July 12 at the Falcon Theatre in Toluca Lake. Tickets go on sale May 5, with performances Thursdays – Sunday. The Falcon Theatre’s website is here. Fellowship website is here.
Chrissy Iley writes: He turned a brutal Russian gangster into a near hero in Cronenberg’s Eastern Promises, but can he do the same for a seductive Nazi in his latest movie, Good? Viggo Mortensen talks to Chrissy Iley about passion, poetry and his performance in Cormac McCarthy’s The Road. One of the things that has always fascinated me about Viggo Mortensen is the way he does ambiguity. The way he can look cruel and gentle at the same time. The way he can embrace extremes of danger and empathy.
In Good his ambiguity excels itself. He’s a Nazi you can’t hate because you understand him. You warm to him, even. He’s vulnerable, he’s vain. He has been gradually seduced into the Nazi movement. He couldn’t help himself. Sympathy for the devil

Deleece x writes: Hi tornsibs – There was no TORN Radio segment this week, but a big treat instead – Sohaib talks with Sean Astin at Icon Long Island last week. There were a few little technical hitches, but I think we have the transcript is intact.
Sohaib: And we’re back on Fictional frontiers with Sohaib, we’re out at the Icon 2009 Long Island and I know a lot of our Lord of the Rings fans, and that should be everyone on our show definitely, is very excited because; one Sean Astin is here to talk to us for a couple of minutes and he’s a little bit pressed for time, which is understandable, given what he’s accomplished, and when you think of friendship and loyalty I don’t think of any other character other than Samwise Gamgee … and I think …
Sean: Well, Thank-you!
