Not surprising to Lord of the Rings and Hobbit movie fans, lifestyle and travel blog, BLT, has named Hobbiton as one of its top 16 movie locations to visit. From the blog: “The gardens and crops surrounding the homely Hobbiton featured in Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings series were actually planted a year before the filming of the first movie. Hobbiton was built and designed with the fictional landscape described by J.R.R. Tolken in the books and the set still stands today. In fact, people travel from all over the world to take a two-hour tour of the set. Hobbiton, although originally just a movie set, is now a permanent tourist attraction.”
Other locations mentioned in the blog include Alnwick Castle in Northumberland, England (Harry Potter; Downton Abby), The Hawaiian island of Kauai (Jurassic Park; Raiders of the Lost Arc) and California’s Redwood National Park (Star War’s Forest Moon of Endor). While all of them would be fun to visit, we’re partial to Hobbiton not the least of which is because it’s not just a building or a landscape to look at. As the article mentions, it’s a permanent tourist attraction in beautiful New Zealand, offering excellent guided tours, a store and a pub! What’s not to love?

Ringer TheHutt, editor of the Russian LotR and Hobbit site Henneth-Annun, laid his hands on this exclusive German release of “The Hobbit” trilogy. Not only are all three of the movies included in steelbook packaging, but there is also a bonus inclusion: “Bilbo’s Journal”, a notebook in the style of Bilbo’s diary which eventually became the Red Book of Westmarch.

The next fantastic Weta item we’re going to be taking a look at made its debut at Comic-Con 2014. King Thror on Throne was a surprise to fans like myself, but it is not surprise that Weta has once again shown the ability to rip what we see on screen and put that right into our collections. The piece has amazing details, including the symbol of the Arkenstone on the back of the throne and the rings on Thror’s hands. Despite his all-to-short screen time, I would highly suggest adding this beautiful piece depicting the great king of the Dwarves, Thror, to your collection.

Artist Jerry Vanderstelt released four new items today covering both The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. First up is the final entry of The Fellowship series with the fantastic Boromir print. He just went on sale and we have an exclusive first look at this fantastic statue. We’ve teamed up with our friends at Weta Workshop to give you the first chance to see just how awesome the Bolg statue from The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug turned out.
Bolg is an impressive statue with some gruesome metal implanted into his body. All the fanstastic details were put there by the talented Gary Hunt and Greg Tozer. Bolg has an edition size of 1000 pieces world wide and comes with a price tag of just $279, which for something this size, detail, and paint is a really good deal.
