Annotated Score of the FOTRAt a new website, The Music of the Lord of the Rings Films, John Jennette has converted the information in the Annotated Scores of the LOTR films (one for each film) from pdf to html format. The Annotated Scores, written by Doug Adams, are companion pieces to the three sets of Complete Recordings and were offered as a free download at the Reprise LOTR soundtrack site. The analysis, though written for the Complete Recordings, can be applied to the movie as well and John also has sound clips available for reference.

Thanks to Doug Adams for pointing this site out to us.

Del Toro AICNQuint at Aint it Cool News interviewed Guillermo Del Toro recently about, you guessed it, Hellboy and The Hobbit. As GDT mentioned here on our message boards, there isn’t really anything new: “I have never been asked so many questions about a project that hasn’t been started or a script that is not written…once you run out of answers you run out of answers,” Del Toro tells Quint. Still, it’s a great read and it’s exciting to hear Del Toro talk about The Hobbit in any context. Thanks to several of you for alerting us to the interview. Read More

A number of critics I was sitting near, exclaimed at the end of “Hellboy 2: The Golden Army,” that this movie was an audition as well as proof of how good Guillermo del Toro’s version of “The Hobbit,” could be. I certainly hope it was neither. Going to the zoo and expecting the polar bear and the zebra to look and behave alike will leave viewers puzzled and unhappy with both animals. Continue reading “Film review: ‘Hellboy 2’ is good-time cinema, isn’t ‘The Hobbit’”

The Hobbit Movie LogoWe’ve been alerted to several interviews with Guilllermo Del Toro in which he has confirmed plans for a second Hobbit movie. Simon, from “Den of Geek” sent in a preview of an interview they’ll publish next Tuesday in which they asked the director whether a second film was in doubt. According to GDT: “Absolutely, categorically not to my knowledge. There’s going to be a second film, but the shape of what it is and how it happens will be determined by the process.”

Upping the ante, message board member Dive Twin pointed us to an interview at IGN where Guillermo teased fans with this comment about M2:

“That is the film that most belongs as a joining effort to the trilogy. And that’s the film we’re going to work the hardest on in the next six months. There are many more questions than there are answers at this stage. But in my heart of hearts, I believe we found a way to do it. I don’t want to spoil it. I’m not being coy and I’m not faking it. I really think we found it, but I’m not at liberty or at a place where I feel it should be discussed.”

Read the full interviews at “Den of Geek” and IGN, then join us in our Barliman’s chatroom or on our Hobbit Movie discussion board to speculate on just what Del Toro, PJ, Fran and Phillipa have in mind.

Hellboy CreatureDave Itzkoff at The New York Times has a clever feature on Guillermo del Toro’s love of monsters and his production of them from notebook to screen. The article also features interactive multi-media that isn’t to be missed. It retreads some previous comments in other stories about someday publishing his notebooks and hints slightly about how his ability to put visuals on the screen may impact “The Hobbit”. Premiere MagazineAs predicted by GDT last week, a ton of interviews and buzz about the Hobbit will precede the release of ‘Hellboy II: The Golden Army’ this coming Friday. To start off the week, Premiere magazine has just posted their interview with Guillermo del Toro for your reading pleasure. While the majority of the interview covers ‘Hellboy,’ GDT talks about his visual plan for ‘The Hobbit’ and the second film (F2), among other topics. Check it out!
