Just as fans were coming off the high of Comic-Con 2017, our friends at Weta Workshop introduced a surprise. The Dol Guldur Orc Solider covers a need in Middle-earth collector’s collections with a generic Orc soldier from The Hobbit Trilogy. This Orc is really fantastic, and superb, from the sculpting details down to the paint. Announced with an edition size of only 500 pieces this piece is going to be one of those that fans will have to hunt for years down the road, so I would suggest not sleeping on acquiring this piece.

One of the show-stopping pieces from Comic-Con 2017 has finally made it’s way to pre-order. The absolutely amazing Thranduil on Elk, sculpted by Lindsey Crummett, is ready to be ordered and added to our collections. This is Weta’s largest statue ever coming in at 22″ tall, and as detailed a piece you’re going to find. Thranduil has a price tag of $999 and an edition size of only 750 pieces world-wide. Our friends at Weta Workshop have also added a long awaited feature to ordering pieces like Thranduil: for certain pre-order items Weta will now be offering payment plans! Now, we as fans can fit even more goodies into our budgets. However, it will also cause items sell out more quickly, so fans won’t want to hesitate too long and risk things selling out.

New York Comic Con is almost here! Alas, TheOneRing.net won’t be there this year; for a number of reasons, we aren’t able to have our usual booth and party at this NYCC. But don’t despair – it doesn’t mean we’ll never be back! We are hoping to see Ringers take Manhattan again next year – so mark your calendars to moot in the Big Apple 2018.
Meanwhile – for those of you who will be in New York City this coming weekend, there is an event for Middle-earth fans! Our friends at Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and Monolith Productions are celebrating the Middle-earth: Shadow of War game with a special gathering on Thursday 5th October. Full details can be found here. We’re told there will be food, drinks, giveaways and more! Even if you’re not a gamer, it seems like a great chance to hang out with some fellow Middle-earth fans. Limited capacity so get there early!
And if you are at New York Comic Con this weekend, please do share with us any Tolkien related sightings or fun. Have a great time!
Helm Collectors rejoice! Our friends at Weta Workshop have two brand new items for you to add to your collection. The first helm covers the good guys, coming all the way from Gondor itself. This Gondor King’s Guard’s Helm captures the beauty of Gondor perfectly and is super-limited with only 750 copies world wide. The second helm makes its way to us all the way from pits beneath Orthanc and, like the King’s Guard Helm, perfectly captures the twisted evil nature of the Uruk-hai. The Uruk-hai Swordsman’s helm is also limited to 750 pieces, as well as coming in with a price tag of $79. Both helms are due to ship early next year but with edition sizes this low they won’t last that long so get your orders in now.
(TORn) Just when you think your fandom has run out of Middle-earth related pants, along comes Bakshi Productions with something fresh.
For those of you who don’t know — hopefully none of you — Ralph Bakshi was the director of the 1978 animated “Lord of the Rings” that was both an introduction to many of us into the realm of Middle-earth and was seemingly influential into Peter Jackson’s film trilogy.
Bakshi did a number of other projects in film, but “Lord of the Rings” remains as one of the works he will always be remembered for.
And now you can wear his storyboards for the film on your own body, a unique clothing item in pop-culture and LOTR history.
They are described like this on the order page:
“We are so friggin excited about thes LOTR capris. Designed from the Bakshi approved original storyboards used in the creation of Bakshi’s animated classic Lord of the Rings. These are the ONLY capris like this in the world – AND the only place to ever get them. This is a first printing and will change storyboards when the time comes!”
There is also a shirt.
You can browse the pants here, and the shirt right here.
Do the message boards still have pants threads? If not, time to start one.
