German website Elbenwald has a complete (low-res) preview of every month of the 2013 Hobbit calendar. August (see right), through to November contain several new images and stills that I don’t think I’ve previously seen — including one of Radagast in an unknown location that seems to be a ruin (Dol Guldur, perhaps?), while December is contains a montage of the barrels-out-of-bond sequence that has now been pushed back to film two. This month, J.W. looks at The Hobbit Storybook and gives away a Tolkien Encyclopedia in a contest. Meanwhile in his mailbag section below, he shares a riddle, talks about multi-headed trolls, and explains why The Return of the King DVDs were released both early and late.
Staff at TheOneRing finally got our hands on the much anticipated printed book tie-ins with the first of the Peter Jackson film trilogy based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit. Images and a review of those books are coming but today we received word about the iBook version which sound kinda awesome. Expect more from us on the printed versions but here is the press release about the electronic ones:

Look at these beautiful new banner posters! These new images offer four very different, atmospheric scenes from the movie; revelry, adventure, reflection and a rather ‘Fellowship’ style silhouette of the dwarves, Bilbo and Gandalf on their journey. Personally, these are my favourite posters for the movie so far. We’ve seen some of these pictures – or very similar – before in one of the scrolls on the official Hobbit website, but here they stand alone as rich, compelling images. If you’re staying spoiler-free you may want to avoid these posters – one of them shows a climactic plot moment. Otherwise, go and feast your eyes! Thanks to Sam Bombadil for the heads up!
Weta Workshop has released even more items for The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. The new items range from some awesome T-Shirts to a great replica of Thorin Oakenshield’s Dwarven Ring. Thorin’s Map obviously plays a big role in The Hobbit and now you can wear it with this fantastic looking Thorin’s Map T-Shirt.
Also, Weta has put up a really good looking t-shirt with the Red Dragon Logo of the and only Smaug. Barad-Dur: Fortress of Sauron will start shipping in the near future from Weta, and what better way to show your excitement for that item than to also buy the Barad-Dur t-shirt. The final t-shirt from Weta also has a matching pin celebrating The Hobbit’s world premiere on the 28th of this month.
All of these shirts come in at $30 and are well worth the purchase. If you’re in New Zeland or know someone there make sure you get the World Premiere Shirt and World Primiere Pin. Finally, fans can order a sterling silver version the Ring of Thorin Oakenshield which is set to ship in early December for a great price of $189.
It appears that at least for the next few weeks, all advance purchases of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey movie tickets on Fandango will earn purchasers a free song download. The song will be Howard Shore’s “The Adventure Begins” and once you make your purchase, they will be sending you an electronic coupon to download the song. Every transaction will trigger this free download, until November 30. So buy early, and collect your song. And make sure you jump on our Message boards (TORn Moots) to talk about what theater you will be going to and what format you will be seeing, and most importantly, will you be in costume. Scan our Line Party pages, find one to join, or create one of your own.
