Our friends at Weta have released the the second print in their The Lord of the Rings art print line with the subject matter capturing Arwen’s attempt to get Frodo to Rivendell after being stuck by the Witch King on Weathertop. This amazing print beautifully captures a secene during this chase where you can see Arwen looking back at the Ringwraiths on her tail along with the look of falling into shadow that Frodo has on his face. The artist for this piece is Gus Hunter a long time artist at Weta who got his start working on The Lord of the Rings Trilogy. This superb work of art is available right now for pre-order from Weta for a price of $35 plus shipping from their New Zealand warehouse. The rest of the world is perfectly free to walk (or run) to the cinema and watch The Adventures of Tintin directed by the legendary Steven Spielberg. But for once, the tables are turned on movie lovers in the U.S. and we must wait until December to see the motion capture film of the beloved comic strip character produced by Peter Jackson.
However, those who are anticipating Belgian writer and cartoonist Hergé’s collection of grand adventure stories put on screen can content themselves with The Art of The Adventures of Tintin book from special effects studio Weta and HarperCollins. Today, via their Facebook page Sideshow Collectibles has released a video of an upcoming Ringwraith Statue. In the video, we get a glimpse of the steed portion of the statue in production, and not much else. If this is a mounted piece, it will be a welcome return to the very popular Sideshow/Weta mounted statues from the early 2000s. The concept art shown in the video implies we will see just that. One question is will this end up joining the premium format line or the maquette line. Let’s hope we find out during the Spooktacular Event which starts next Monday, October 24th. [View the Teaser]

How cool would this be to watch?
from scoop.co.nz: A one point five metre high ‘Showgirl on A Dragon’ will begin to appear in the SKYCITY Atrium tomorrow as Weta Workshop sculptor Craig Campbell gets to work on the masterpiece which will take him ten days to complete.
From 12-16 October and 19-23 October NZ, the American artist with fifteen years practice in his craft will create the sculpture as the public look on. Based in the heart of SKYCITY, at the top of the stairs the lead to the Sky Tower lifts, the live demonstration will give locals and the many tourists in town the chance to chat to Craig about his creation and the work of Weta Workshop.
Tim Launder from Weta Workshop says: “This is the thrilling sequel to the opening of the Weta Cave at the end of August. We’ve had such a great response from the Auckland public to the shop; it’s special to be able to add that little bit more magic.”

During the month of October Sideshow Collectibles holds its awesome Spooktacular Event. Now, while this would tend to make folks think Halloween, Vampires, Zombies, and not something from Middle-earth. However, the next character to get the maquette treatment in the The Lord of the Rings maquette line does, I would say, meet the requirements to be announced during Spooktacular. We have seen a quick glimpse of the maquette in a statue video Sideshow had out a while back. In that video the Ringwraith was holding the Witch-king of Angmar sword so that right there could be your exclusive item while the regular would just be a standard maquette. As soon as this new maquette is fully shown hopefully during Spooktacular we will have the images and information for you. Stay tuned! [Spooktacular]
