ITV is producing another Sharpe tale starring Sean Bean scheduled to screen later in 2008. Sharpe’s Peril takes up where the 2006 two-parter, watched by seven million viewers, left off. Sharpe and Harper lead an East India Company train through enemy territory and face off the inevitable bandit attack. The adventure is part of a new raft of dramas scheduled by ITV for the autumn. Viggo Mortensen is prepared to snub the Oscars. The 49-year-old actor is up for a Best Actor Oscar for his portrayal of a ruthless Russian gangster in ‘Eastern Promises,’ but will boycott next month’s prestigious Academy Awards if the Hollywood writers’ strike is still unresolved. “If there’s a strike I will not go but I have a feeling they’ll solve it. I hope they do. I’m sure my mother would like to see me on TV,” Mortensen said Mortensen is up against George Clooney, Daniel Day-Lewis, Tommy Lee Jones and Johnny Depp for the Best Actor accolade at the awards ceremony on February 24. On a more dubious note, Orlando Bloom has nabbed a ‘Razzie’ Award nomination for his work on ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End’. The Razzie Awards have been around since 1981, they are intended to be the Yin to the Oscars Yang as they showcase the worst acting, screenwriting, songwriting, directing, and films that the film industry had to offer. The Oscar® Nominations are out today and two LOTR Alums have snagged nominations. First up, Viggo Mortensen, has landed a Best Actor Nomination for his role in ‘Eastern Promises.’ And continuing her critical success in 2008, Cate Blanchett has been nominated for two awards: Best Actress in Leading Role and Best Actress in a Supporting Role.
