Fan favorite Doug Jones is only in Legion for about 90 seconds, but his role as a demonic ice cream man is the 90 creepiest seconds of the film. Of course he has loads of other awesome projects in the works to chat about. In addition to zombie webisodes and butcher slasher movies, Doug updated us (along with a handful of other journos) yesterday on his involvement in Guillermo del Toro’s The Hobbit and Frankenstein — among other upcoming films — and tells us how he reconciles his own religious beliefs with Legion’s apocalyptic storyline. Variety had a sit-down with New Line chief Toby Emmerich about the state of the modest, smaller and newly profitable New Line film studio and its new existence under the Warner Bros. umbrella. The conversation turned of course to “The Hobbit.” We learn, among other things that executive Michael Disco will oversee the two movies for the studio. Variety also spoke with Warner’s Alan Horn who, according to the article, “… won’t predict when the first of the two “Hobbit” films will be out, but says the most probable scenario would be a release in the fourth quarter of 2012.”
It concludes with, “It’s a big bet for us. But it’s one we think will pay off given the success of ‘Lord of the Rings,'” says Emmerich. “This is one of the few movies it feels like people are waiting for.”
We know a few people who are indeed waiting for these films. In fact that “2012” date that just got thrown around may start a riot. Remember fans, biting your nails and tearing out you hair will not make things happen faster, nor will turning over cars or looting – the latter two reactions only lead to jail time. Thanks to Ringer Ryan who sent in a rather interesting find. We have not been able to verify the following statement from Ryan is correct, but we thought with Andy Serkis replacing David Tennant in the upcoming ‘Burke and Hare,’ it might just be the smallest of hints who could be cast as Bilbo Baggins. Here’s what Ryan sent us:
‘Simon Pegg wrote on Twitter yesterday “Looks like David Tennant will be visiting Middle Earth”…
He has since…I think…Deleted this post…’
We do know that David Tennant has dropped out of ‘Burke and Hare’ from another Simon Pegg tweet, that has since been removed, but reported on by the MTV Movie Blog. You can read more about that through the following link. [Read More]
Ah, the wonders of casting rumors! What do you think? Would David Tennant make a good Bilbo? Click on the discuss link below and let your voice be heard!
Repost from down below..just to keep everyone in the loop:
Once again, I have confirmed the rumors:
Tobey Maguire is NOT PLAYING BILBO BAGGINS
The definitive answer I just received is ‘No truth’..plain and simple..two words…it’s over. Spread the word!
UPDATE: The director of ‘The Hobbit’, Guillermo del Toro himself, popped into our message boards to confirm this fact, Maguire is NOT playing Bilbo. More..
Chris writes: Andy Serkis was a guest on the television programme Something for the Weekend on BBC2 in the UK today (17th January). He was asked if would be reprising the role of Gollum in The Hobbit and he said that although nothing had yet been signed, he expected to be returning. The programme will soon be available to watch on the BBC iPlayer website at the following link. Unfortunately, it can only be viewed by people in the UK. More..
From The Southland Times (via stuff.co.nz) Location scouts for The Hobbit are looking at Queenstown locations and shooting crews could be working in the area this year. A Queenstown film industry source said that while no filming was guaranteed, some shooting of what is likely to be a two-part concurrently shot film was likely to happen in the area.
“The Hobbit will almost definitely be coming to the South Island,” a film crew freelancer said. Continue reading “Queenstown scouted for Hobbit”
