In an interview with BBC’s HARDtalk, Sir Ian McKellen shares his thoughts with show host Stephen Sackur on reprising his role as Gandalf the Grey, on whether he’s going to find his return to the role fresh and challenging, and on working with director Guillermo del Toro.

Sir Ian McKellen likes the idea of returning to Coronation Street – this time as a permanent character. The Lord Of The Rings star played novelist Mel Hutchwright in 2005.

The wildly talented science fiction and fantasy artist/author designed the creatures for James Cameron’s Avatar. He’s done concept art for a number of other Hollywood blockbusters, including Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Hellboy and most recently Peter Jackson’s two-part, big-screen adaptation of The Hobbit. But even though he’s done reams of work for the film industry, it was his vivid reimagining of Dante Alighieri’s Inferno—the appropriately titled Barlowe’s Inferno—that made him the perfect candidate to work on Visceral Games’ new hack-and-slash action title, which also just so happens to be inspired by the late Italian poet’s masterpiece. Woody Woodmass writes: Sir Ian McKellen was on UK TV, ITV ‘Loose Women’ yesterday (9th Oct). Unfortunately this programme is not on their ‘ITV-player’ so did not get a transcript or record it. However, he did indicate that his play would be touring down under shortly, and on completion in New Zealand, he will be making the Hobbit. Of course we all know he will be in it, but the time frame appeared to be within 6 months.

Niels writes: I was at the Poolburn Reservoir in the south-island this morning enjoying the scenery where the burning Rohirrim village was shot.

On our way over there through the Ida Valley I already spotted a helicopter, since we’ve seen loads of them on our trip so far I didn’t think anything of it then. But when we were at the Poolburn Reservoir I climbed up on one of the rocks to get a better view of the reservoir below, and the helicopter returned and made a very low pass alongside the reservoir.
