Earlier today, Peter Jackson posted an announcement on his Facebook page: “Hi, everyone. Thought you might like to know that a new video from the set of THE HOBBIT will be landing here soon!”
Great news: it’s up now! This one focuses on the intricacies of shooting in 3D, but there’s heaps of intriguing scenes along the way, and at least one shot of Elijah Wood viewing the 3D film rushes with Jackson and the crew. Needless to say, if you start looking at the background closely, you may spot some SPOILER material.

Variety recently interviewed Benedict Cumberbatch about the iconic roles he’s lately been playing on both TV and cinema, and there’s a small bit where the man talks about his preparation for the role of Smaug.
The relevant excerpt follows:
“I’ll be donning … well, probably not Andy Serkis’ sweaty wet suit … I’m sure they dry clean it.
Playing a reptile is something I don’t believe has been done before. I’ve already started working out, crawling around on my belly whenever I can without alarming people too much.”

Ringer Spy Glow sends us this fantastic close-up of what we believe to be Beorn’s Hall. Is this the first close-up we’ve seen? Could it be Radagast’s home in Rhosgobel which was said to be built “under the eaves of Mirkwood”?
It’s obviously still under construction, but the one-level nature and sharply pitched roof is very reminiscent of Tolkien’s own sketch of Beorn’s Hall that was published in the book…
Moviefone has just published a short Q&A with Luke Evans, who plays the role of Bard the Bowman in Jackson’s adaptation of the Hobbit. Talking about his role in what he describes “as the longest job of my life”, he says he’s back in NZ in three weeks (to film on location down near Queenstown, we guess) and drops an interesting little fact about the nature of his all-important bow.
