Scottish actor John Bell is the youngest castmember from The Hobbit. Yet this year he’s been in two blockbuster movies, Wrath of the Titans and Battleship. And The Hobbit is still to come.
John recently answered a few questions about his work on these films in a Q&A with Middle-earth News. For Tolkien fans keen to find out more on his role in The Hobbit, he describes Bain, son of Bard as: (highlight below to reveal spoilers)
“a young boy ready to do battle when needs be and to protect his father.” He later adds that: “I won’t shy away from a fight sequence, and I’m happy to slip into a harness whenever it’s needed so I can hang off a cliff or swing across a perilous ravine.”
It’s unclear whether the second quote could refer to his work in other films. Could we really see Bain rescuing Bard from deadly danger? Anyone who knows more, please drop us an e-mail!.

Of all the photos that have come out of the EW preview of their magazine edition that was just released, the one of the dwarves in barrels is almost certainly the most intriguing.
That’s because the previous barrel photos we’ve seen from the production diaries have shown the dwarves paddling downriver toward Laketown rather than packed away tightly inside their barrels as Tolkien described.
Highlight the above to reveal the spoiler, then read on for more spoiler analysis of what the new EW photo could mean for this key sequence of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.

Ages ago, John Rhys-Davies spent a few days visiting the Hobbit set while he was in New Zealand. Unlike Elijah Wood or Orlando Bloom, for well-known reasons there was no announcement that he would reprise his role as Gimli son of Gloin.
However, at a recent convention, a Reddit reader asked him point-blank about a possible cameo in the Hobbit.
At first [Rhys-Davies] denied it, but after a little pressing he smiled really big, laughed, winked, and said that maybe it was possible. His smile… his laugh… I’m taking this as a pretty big indicator that he will be involved in some small way.
Considering that in Lord of the Rings, Rhys-Davies also provided the voice of Treebeard, could it be possible that for The Hobbit he might cameo something like the voice of one of the trolls? (Highlight the sentence to see our hidden, possibly spoilerish speculation!)

Popwatch has just revealed the cover for Entertainment Weekly’s forthcoming Comic-Con edition, and the lead feature is The Hobbit.
Their blurb says that the mag will feature “exclusive images and on-set scoops from the first movies — An Unexpected Journey — including interviews with Martin Freeman (Bilbo Baggins), Ian McKellen (Gandalf), and director Peter Jackson.”
Even better, EW has also posted a brand-new gallery of set and promotional photos that we think might reveal some nifty new details of what we can expect from the movie! Go check them out!
We suggest not visiting the gallery if you are SPOILER averse!
Choice quote from Martin Freeman: ‘I don’t think I’m particularly hobbit-y,’ says Freeman. ‘But I do like comfort and I’m quite private, so in those ways, maybe I am.’
