While visiting Wellington in New Zealand, Prince Charles – who is here for the Queen’s diamond jubilee tour – made a stop over at Weta Workshop, where he meet Sir Peter Jackson and Sir Richard Taylor, and Dori (Mark Hadlow), who makes a special request of the Prince. Watch below!
Prince Charles clearly enjoyed his time at Weta Workshop; it made an unusual part of his 64th birthday celebrations, which he also spent with 64 New Zealanders who shared the same birthday. You can read more about the Prince’s visit to Wellington here, here and here (if you look closely at that last article, you may notice some interesting concept art and some familiar faces on the wall behind Prince Charles and Peter Hambleton!) Thanks to all the Ringers who emailed us about this news!
The 6th Hobbit TV spot is up on the official movie blog. While only 33 seconds long, we get some new dialogue between Bilbo and Thorin and a few new shots to go with it. Check it out here!
On Monday we shared with you the very exciting news that Billy Boyd and Beecake will be our headliners for our live show at The One Expected Party in Hollywood next February. Now we are thrilled to let you know that our favourite Celtic rock band will be back to open the show for us! Four piece band Emerald Rose have been great friends of TheOneRing.net since we met at DragonCon more than ten years ago, and fans danced the night away to their music at our Oscar parties for The Two Towers and The Return of the King. Their music ranges from traditional jigs and reels to original folk rock and pop numbers; we’re pretty sure Bilbo would have hired them for his birthday party if he could have! You can learn more about them here; we can’t wait to welcome them back on to the stage at the Hollywood American Legion on Oscars night – February 24th 2013!
Excited about this party yet?! Tickets will go on sale very soon!
Jim Jannard, owner of RED Digital Cinema, reports that he has seen a THIRD trailer for The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. Writing on the REDUSER Forum, he said: “It was a big day at REd [sic] today. We loaded and projected the following trailers at RSH today: The Hobbit (3rd trailer) [editorial emphasis], Oz, The Great Gatsby, Hitchcock, Flight, Parker, The Man with the Iron Fist, Stand Up Guys”.
This is, perhaps, the best indication yet that we will get a third trailer for before The Hobbit debuts next month. Still no sign of a rating on the Alberta Film Ratings website, however.
Thanks to Ringer Owain on the TORn forums for the find.
The cover for The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey: The World of Hobbits Ethan Gilsdorf from Wired reviews several of the tie-in books for The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.
I recently got my hands on the five movie tie-in books (published by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, the U.S. publisher of all of Tolkien’s works). The titles are The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey: Official Movie Guide and The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey: Visual Companion (these two are for adults, mostly); and The Movie Storybook, The World of Hobbits, and Activity Book (for kids, mostly; their titles are also preceded by the unwieldy “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey”).
All are full-color, super glossy, and chock with images from Peter Jackson’s first film (and sometimes, a little bit beyond the first film), and all five include some minor insights, sneak previews and/or spoilers, depending on your point of view.
Some fans have expressed concern that Peter Jackson melding The Hobbit with Tolkien’s later, weightier work will rob the former of its light spirit. Might it lose its intimate tone?
