Please join us today in sending love and support to the folks in Christchurch, New Zealand. Only 4 months ago, the same area was rocked by a 6.3 magnitude quake that killed 180 people. While these two quakes were smaller, they have still caused some significant problems. Follow the links for various articles about the latest quakes. New Zealand website scene.co.nz reports that Peter Jackson’s Gulfstream private jet was spotted in Queenstown yesterday. The report states that post touchdown,  a 15-person entourage headed out for a hanger at local chopper company Heliworks.

An eye-witness also states that:

“There were about 13 to 15 of them and they had a huge amount of gear and they all took off in choppers.”

TORn regulars will recall our previous reports concerning “The Hobbit” scouting parties in Queenstown from as far back as November 2009. For those who missed those reports, they can still be accessed from the links provided below:

Our friend Jack down in New Zealand who frequently posts Hobbit-related news on his “Noldor Blog” had a stroke of luck while driving out towards Rivendell/Kaitoke Regional Park. He noticed an open truck carrying along what looked like set pieces for a film, most probably The Hobbit, and he managed to snap more than a few high resolution pictures from a couple of different angles.

Here follows an excerpt from his blog (but don’t forget to head over to The Noldor Blog to read Jack’s entire account and have a look-see at those high resolution pictures we mentioned above.)

We were driving on State Highway 2, heading towards Upper Hutt, and the Kaitoke Regional Park where the Rivendell set was based for LOTR, when in the distance, I couldn’t help but notice an interesting cargo on the back of one of the trucks in front of us.

The pictures appear to show a piece of very nice “stone” masonry, with curved tiles on a fairly large wooden base. Also, underneath some camo plastic, there were what appeared to be pre-fabricated wooden fences of some sort.

Have an opinion about which set the pictures show? Our message boards are just the place to discuss with fellow fans!

One man remained in hospital for observation and was expected to be released in the next few hours, while the other had returned to work, The Hobbit unit publicist Ceris Price said:

The incident happened in one of the workshops when “a couple of the guys” were drilling a statue, Ms Price said earlier today.
The pair were left with “mild burns but nothing serious” and were taken to hospital as a precaution, she said.

“One of them had some burnt nostril hairs and, apparently if that’s the case, there is always the risk of inhalation so they get checked out.”

She said calling the incident an explosion was a “slight overstatement” and no fire was caused by the incident.
