Access Hollywood recently spoke to Evangeline Lilly, and touched on her role as the woodland elf Tauriel in the current production of The Hobbit. Revealingly, she provided a couple of lines of elvish (presumably Sindarin, but I’m no Tolkien language scholar) — which finally give us some tantalising clues about where the Tauriel character slots into Tolkien’s story.
She also indicated she was being extensively coached in English Received Pronunciation — same as the elves of Rivendell in Lord of the Rings. “I have a dialect coach, I have a motion coach, I have a language coach,” she said. “So I should, by rights, be great in this film!

Andrew writes: According to this article (posted on September 29th), Ian McKellen is back in New Zealand, and will have another break in December.
“Sir Ian, who has now returned to New Zealand to continue filming both parts of The Hobbit, said: “I have got a break at Christmas and I wasn’t going to come home but I think I will now I have the pub. I really enjoy just sitting here in the evening. In New Zealand I will be based in Wellington but we are on location up and down the country shooting both films at the same time.”

Anton writes: I have just read an older interview with actor Mikael Persbrandt, back from September 1, in the Swedish newspaper Dagens Nyheter where they, among other things, asked him about his role as Beorn in the upcoming The Hobbit-films. I know that the interview isn’t up-to-date, but I still imagine that it’s a good read for Lotr-fans excepting the films. Once again I restrict myself to the things relating to the Hobbit and try to translate it all to the best of my ability. Now lets get on with it…
-“I try to act as him as if it all is a small drama; especially given the suit I’m going to wear.” Persbrandt replied on the question on how he’s going to act as Beorn, and he also apparently laughed after saying the thing about the suit. Continue reading “Mikael Persbrandt Talks The Hobbit”

From [3News]
Evangeline Lilly fears “purist” fans will hate herrole in The Hobbit because her character didn’t feature in the book and was invented solely for the fantasy film adaptation.
The Lost actress’ Sylvan elf Tauriel was created especially for director Peter Jackson‘s upcoming Lord of the Rings prequel, based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s classic novel The Hobbit.
But Lilly admits she is terrified Tolkien devotees won’t respond well when the movie epic is released next year.

Thanks to Ringer Kookie for pointing us to a great interview with Evangeline Lilly (Tauriel in The Hobbit) from SFX. In the interview, Lilly talks about her time commitments, learning elvish, archery, swordplay, and just how long she’s been a Tolkien fan.
When you played Kate you were always doing physical scenes and stunts. How are you prepping for The Hobbit?
“With every film, you have to educate yourself on the material and it’s often things you don’t know a lot about. Right now I’m studying Elvish and having conversations with people about learning how to be an archer, a swordsperson and how to fight like an elf instead of a gritty convict.” [Laughs]
Did you have any reservations about joining The Hobbit cast?
“With The Hobbit, it was a no-brainer because I have been a fan of those books since I was 13-years-old.”
