TheOneRing.net and Red Carpet Tours Premiere Party was a hit. Happy fans, stunning costumes, wonderful music and to top it all off, we were visited by Peter Jackson, Elijah Wood, Andy Serkis, Richard Taylor, Tania Rodgers, Gino Acevedo, Philippa Boyens, and a whole parcel of assorted dwarves – Stephen Hunter, Peter Hambleton  and John Callen, to name just a few – well, I’ve surely left some names off the list and I’m sorry for that. But it was a wonderful, wonderful night, and we’re just bowled over at the generosity of the stars who gave their time and enthusiasm so generously. It was fantastic to be able to thank them and show our appreciation for their hard, hard work.

Huge thanks to William Kircher (Bifur) who entertained the crowd with his great band California Dreamers – their Misty Mountains song was a huge hit. Jed Brophy (Nori) was great with his band The Last Resort, and Jed also did a superb job as MC, keeping the crowd happy and keeping everything going smoothly.

Pics will no doubt follow (there were plenty of you out there with cameras, so please send us your faves); meanwhile check out the amazing scenes captured on local media and the reports coming in on Facebook.

Update! Reports are coming in from some of our discussion board members who attended the party. Read their reports on our TORn Moots and Other Event board here.

The Shire Waytes
The Shire Waytes will play tonight at TheOneRing.net’s Hobbit Premiere Party.
It’s been an all-out effort from the Shire Waytes to prepare for tonight’s party. This weekend their full complement gathered from the far-flung provinces so they could put the final polish on their act. Ringer Lissuin from our messageboards has been working overtime on their costumes – and you can see the fantastic results here.

If you’re in Wellington don’t miss this your chance to party with the fans! Door sales are available, and once you’re in, you have the chance to win goodies from Weta and Stansborough as we raise money for TORN and Books in Homes.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey is complete. Are you ready?
The post-production people working feverishly on The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey have been tweeting over the last few hours that film one is finally done and dusted.

Senior on-line editor Rob Gordon also writes: “Get ready word [sic], HFR is coming your way. Are you ready?”

Thanks to Ringer Tolktolk on the forums for the heads-up!

Could TheOneRing.net’s party in Los Angeles next February GET any more exciting??  First Billy Boyd and Beecake confirmed, then Emerald Rose, and now we are thrilled to announce that actor Charlie Ross – whose ‘One Man Lord of the Rings’ has been such a huge hit – will join us in Hollywood and, in a special performance, will give us a taste of just what makes his show so popular!

This is the kind of line up that Middle-earth fans dream of – and we’ll be adding more acts too, so look out for further announcements!  It will indeed be a night to remember!  February 24th 2013 is the date – tickets on sale very soon, so get ready to buy quickly before they sell out!

Over coming days, in this four-part series, guest writer Eric M. Van will draw together the threads of known facts, and add a dash of logic to speculate on how Peter Jackson and his crew may have imagined their version of JRR Tolkien’s The Hobbit. In the first part, he takes one of the most mysterious sections, how The Necromancer, Sauron, and the wizard, Radagast the Brown, will weave into Bilbo Baggins’ much-less-epic (yet no less important) adventure. The Unexpected Party.
This essay presents an argument for the likely structure and content of the Hobbit film trilogy, with particular concern for where there is evidence of the film-makers re-structuring the source material and interpreting the appendices.

As such, it integrates and expands upon points made in three previous articles published here on TheOneRing.net: an article defending the prospect of a trilogy; an article arguing the likely structure and break-point of film one; and an article analysing the official Hobbit figurine descriptions leaked online a couple of months ago.

It attempts to triangulate a sense of the films’ structure and content from two things: the available information that has been released about the films; an appreciation for how stories are constructed. With regard to the latter, two points are worth emphasising: in an adaptation as in any story, characters are key, and they must progress through an arc. Naturally, there will be spoilers.
