Hot off the heels of the exciting festivities in Wellington, we are happy to open the official party subsite for ‘The One Expected Party!’ This site will be your one stop location for all of the fine details about this black-tie gala hosted by TheOneRing.net on Oscar Night 2013. To say the night will be special for every Tolkien fan is a bit of an understatement. Our planning team are working overtime to make this the most memorable event TheOneRing.net has ever hosted! Entertainment for the night includes Billy Boyd’s band Beecake, Emerald Rose and Charles Ross of ‘The One Man Lord of the Rings!’  To coincide with the launch of the subsite, we are excited to announce that invitations to the party are now being sent to email inboxes around the world. The first invitations are being sent to those fans who filled our our Oscar Party survey last year. So if you gave us your feedback, look for an email today! Tickets will then be offered to our registered forum members and members of The Fellowship. If there are tickets left, we will open them to the general public. Jed Brophy giving his time to the fans
Jed Brophy giving his time to the fans; meanwhile a storm of organisation is happening just out of sight in the background!

The great buzz at the Premiere Party owes a lot to the presence of over a hundred fans from all corners of the earth who came to Wellington on a Red Carpet tour. There was a glorious mix of accents as they streamed into the Amora Ballroom last night. We have Vic, Rae and Julie from Red Carpet to thank for getting the party idea off the ground and then bringing it to fruition with months of hard work. Their work is far from over – they have a whole lot of new Hobbit locations to show their tour group when they take the ferry to the South Island the day after the premiere. In the meantime here’s a picture that sums up Tolkien fandom – there’s Jed Brophy in the middle, sharing his time generously with fans whose appearance is a tribute to their imagination and creativity. In the background – you can’t quite see them, through the door – are the hard working people at the entry desk making everything happen – Vic, Rae and Julie.

There’s a gallery of excellent photos of costumes at the party here, thanks to Fotografdracula.

Hobbitus Ille: The Latin HobbitIn foramine terrae habitabat hobbitus. (‘In a hole in the ground, there lived a hobbit.’)

The Hobbit, is one of the world’s most popular classic stories, appealing to adults as much as to the children for whom J.R.R. Tolkien first wrote the book. Translated worldwide into more than 60 modern languages, now Hobbitus Ille is finally published in Latin, and will be of interest to all those who are studying the language, whether at school or at a higher level.

In the great tradition of publishing famous children’s books in Latin, professional classicist and lifelong Tolkien fan Mark Walker provides a deft translation of the entire book. His attention to detail, including the transformation of Tolkien’s songs and verses into classical Latin meters, will fascinate and entertain readers of all ability, even those with only a minimal acquaintance with the language.  Read this full post for the Press Release and pick up your copy today!
