Galenswerd Swordsong writes: I Just wanted to let you guys know that members of the LOTRO community on the Landroval server have created an awesome video set to the music of Celtic band Fathom. Turbine featured the video on their community spotlight:
“The first time we saw “The Battle of Ballylochlan,” we knew we’d have to spotlight this Celtic masterpiece on a very particular day. Like minstrels of ancient times, Welby and the Lonely Mountain Band wield the arts masterfully, and envelop us in their merriment. Featuring an enthusiastic drum beat, insane Irish piping, and stunning visuals, the movie lets us join them in a St Patrick’s Day themed celebration, on the special day itself. Congratulations again to Welby, and happy St Patrick’s day from the Turbine team!”
Born of Hope is a prequel to the fantasy novels and tells the story of the Dúnedain, the Rangers of the North, before the return of the King. The 60-minute film, which will be released on the internet next year, focuses on Arathorn and Gilraen, the parents of Aragorn, from their first meeting through a turbulent time in their people’s history. Filming has already begun in Epping Forest in Essex, with the latest footage showing actors trudging through the woods dressed as sword-wielding Orcs. Kate Robinson, who is directing the film, said: “Born of Hope is a prequel to the New Line Trilogy and my aim is to make a film that can sit alongside those films without looking too out of place. Orcs are back in Lord of the Rings-inspired Born of Hope
Daniel alerted us to this impressive undertaking: Have you heard of Patrick Action, the matchstick man of Iowa? He is currently working on a large model of Minas Tirith and it should be completed by the end of 2009. The link to his website is below. The second link is to a St. Paul, Minnesota TV station that did a 5 minute story on the Matchstick man. It is well worth watching.
Kate writes: With principle photography having started in July and the release of their brand new trailer just weeks away the Lord of the Rings inspired film Born of Hope is leaping like a phoenix from the ashes. Since the test shoot over two years ago the website has been a little quiet for those eager to see the finished film but pre production has been quietly ticking over behind the scenes and now that the film is back in production things are really hotting up. Those who know about this ambitious feature film which follows the story of Aragorn’s parents will be excited to see all the new changes and additions to the website plus all the news and photos from the shoot in July. If you haven’t yet heard of this wonderful production yet then check out their website now!
The following video is one of the most unique and creative LOTR themed fan films we have ever seen – so we are super glad to share it with you! The film, shot in black and white silent film style, tells the story of a little orc who happens upon two lost hobbits in Middle Earth. Will they be lead into Saruman’s hands or will the little orc help them find their friends? Check out the video on YouTube or view it below. [YouTube]
Forum member Finduilas101 just posted a link to some great LOTR themed music videos from TheAragonath.cc. I’m not 100% sure if TORn has reported on these videos in the past, but they are unique and entertaining enough to have a second mention. If you have some time today (in between the Olympics) check out the 30+ videos of LOTR film scenes set to popular music. Gotta say, my personal favorite is the Sauron composition to Black Sabbath’s ‘Iron Man,’ though the Eomer mix to ‘Seven Nation Army’ is pretty solid too. Then again, there is the Modest Mouse ‘Float On’ mix to Merry and Pippin…and then…oh you’ll see… there are a lot of good ones. Going through them all might take a little bit of time, but hey, what else were you going to do today? 🙂 [LOTR Music Videos]
