Nathaniel Amroth writes: Hello TORn! Long fan of the site, and I’m hoping to get as many Boston Ringers together as possible for this awesome engagement, especially the triple feature on October 12th! Here’s the schedule!
From message board member Isildur’s heir: I just received an email from The New Yorker magazine. It seems Guillermo del Toro will be speaking at the Director’s Guild of America, as part of the New Yorker Festival, on October 4 at 7:30 p.m. at The Directors Guild of America; 110 West 57th Street. Tickets go on sale Wednesday, so be ready!
Tickets ($35) available Wednesday, September 17th, at 12 noon E.T., at festival.newyorker.com or by calling 800-440-6974. Tickets will also be sold during Festival weekend at Festival HQ, at Metropolitan Pavilion, 125 West 18th Street, and at the door. Send in your reports if you’re lucky enough to go!
The Rivendell Group and Minnesota Tolkien Society are hosting a Birthday Party and Tolkien discussion in honor of our favorite hobbits’ birthdays this Saturday at an undisclosed location in the Twin Cities. If you want to have a great conversation about the best topics you can find out more information here.
From Tamara: Well, they might not have been elven boats, but this past weekend, Boston Ringers held a moot at the Boston Public Garden to ride the swan boats together. TORnsibs celebrated Bilbo and Frodo’s birthday early this year, by picnicking in the park and practicing their Galadriel waves from the bridge over the lagoon. More pictures can be seen on the groups Yahoo page, onewhitetree. We are gathering again soon, so keep checking the TORn Moots message boards for updates.
Southern California Tolkien fans are invited to join in the merriment of TORN’s Annual Baggins Birhday Bash, which will take place on Sunday Sept 21 starting at noon in Griffith Park near the Merry-Go-Round. Costumes are encouraged, and prizes will be bestowed upon the most beautifully or most creatively attired lads and ladies. There will also be fun and games, as usual, and maybe even the traditional impersonation contest (if partygoers are up to it). There will be lots of wonderful prizes to be won. The picnic is potluck so bring something to share. RSVP to me at Garfeimao@theonering.net. Please let me know what you plan to bring so I can make sure we’ve got all bases covered for a good, Hobbity meal.
