A few lucky people on our Hobbit discussion board who live in Norway reported today that, after standing in line in freezing cold temperatures for days, their efforts have been rewarded with tickets for The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey! The movie opens in many theaters in Norway with a midnight showing at 12:12 a.m., Wednesday, December 12. Tickets are currently on sale for both 2-D and 3-D showings.
Perhaps more exciting for those of us who aren’t lucky enough to live in Norway, member Carne tells us that two separate theaters in Norway report a running time of 2 hours, 44 minutes. Another member, painjoker, corroborated that with the observation that some folks who had been invited to a showing of the rough-cut in the theater he was standing in line at were inside the theater approximately three hours. Mithrandir also reported they’re allowing about three hours and ten minutes between showings, so that would also corroborate a 2:44 running time. By definition, if it is a rough cut being shown now, the running time could still change slightly, but 2:44 seems to be the consensus at the moment.
Tickets to the movie will go on sale in the U.S. on November 7. Two hours an forty-four minutes of Hobbit goodness will be coming to a theater near all of us soon, but ‘patience’ is the word of the day for those of us who have to wait until the 7th of November for our tickets!

From Hollywood Reporter. com: Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey is to be the 65th Royal Film Performance on Dec. 12 in the British capital. The movie will screen to the Queen or members of the Royal Family in aid of the Cinema and Television Benevolent Fund, the charity set up to look after U.K. industry employees and their families who are suffering from hardship.
CTBF president Anne Bennett said: “We are thrilled to be able to host the U.K. premiere of this highly-anticipated first installment of “The Hobbit” trilogy. We are thankful to Peter Jackson and Warner Bros., New Line and MGM for providing this opportunity, and are grateful for the unswerving support the Royal Family gives to our charity and the Royal Film Performance.” Read more…

By now we’ve all probably seen the new Hobbit trailer scores of times on our computers. Many have even streamed it 20 or 30 times on their big screen TVs, including all four alternate endings (ahem). But, there’s nothing like seeing it first hand on the big screen as I can now attest. Having just returned from seeing Dredd 3-D (well worth the price of admission, IMHO), I’m elated to say that the Hobbit trailer *is* playing in front of it, it played in 3-D and it was AWESOME!!!! Of course, the amount of additional detail one can see on the big screen goes without saying, but the colors, dialogue and sound were also enhanced enough to make any geek squeal with glee (as the rest of the movie-goers can attest). The 3-D was also amazing – not overdone, but enough to feel like I was being transported to Middle-earth.
For the record, I live in the Denver area and went to an AMC theater. As we get reports about other movies it’s playing with, we’ll update this story. If you’re wondering how you’re ever going to make it to December 14th, I highly recommend trying to see the trailer in theaters. Then again, maybe that just makes it worse! (No.. really.. SEE IT)!

We must close out the group for TORn’s Hobbit Premiere Tour this week, so this is your last chance to join in this historic trip. Rooms in Wellington are in great demand right now, and we can no longer hold onto unsold space. So after Wednesday, anyone making an inquiry to join the trip will need to wait for a confirmation of space and a possible change to existing pricing. Please see our Tour Page for all the details, including schedule, contact information and the Registration Form. The tour will include 4 nights in Wellington during the time Wellington will be gearing up for the premiere, and then 2 nights in Auckland and a day trip down to Matamata, home of the Hobbiton movie set. There will be a Premiere party in Wellington, as well as the actual Red Carpet event, as seen in the photo, and a luncheon at Hobbiton. All with a wonderful Fellowship of fellow fans, visiting one of the most delightful countries you can imagine.
Don’t be left wondering ‘what if’ once November rolls around and TORn’s coverage of the Premiere kicks into high gear.
