Oxonmoot is the special event of the Tolkien Society year held on a weekend close to Bilbo & Frodo’s birthdays. There is a range of activities such as academic talks & papers, workshops, new, second-hand and rare book dealers, an art show (with professional and amateur works), plus a quiet area where you can drink tea, fill up the corners and chat with old or new friends. Of course there is also a party including a masquerade (costume is optional) and entertainments. It is a great time for making new friends in the Society. On Sunday there is a wreath laying and short act of remembrance, Enyalië, at Tolkien’s grave. Continue reading “Oxonmoot on the horizon”
Poster artist Paul Vicenti has written in with news on fan film, “Hunt For Gollum” at DragonCon where TheOneRing.net will also be presenting a panel (twice) on the very latest news on “The Hobbit”.
Deej writes: Unfortunately, due to work commitments John Noble will not be attending DragonCon this year. However, the wonderful Craig Parker was just added to the guest list! He joins the impressive lineup of Tolkien scholars and artists already confirmed, as well as TORn’s own MrCere and his eagerly awaited panel on the upcoming ‘Hobbit’ film. 
The plan was to be impartial and emotionless in the printed word and provide interested parties (hopefully you dear reader) all the facts and information from Peter Jackson’s un-press conference in San Diego as possible.
Have you ever wondered who wins those cool, big prizes, like a car? Well, news out of Comic-Con 2009 would seem to indicate that even a little Hobbit can win a car. The car in question would be one of the 4 Nissan Cubes that NBC and ‘Heroes’ was giving away during Comic-Con. The Hobbit in question would be So Cal’s own Rosie Carynn. (Rosie Carynn is one of TORn’s most valued friends and enthusiasts! So its even cooler that she won!)
