We here at TheOneRing.net are very excited to give our audience an exclusive chance to own one of the official The Hobbit “200 days to go” long sleeve black T-shirt, supplied to the crew at the end of filming of block one. This giveaway is made possible by actor Conan Stevens (Bolg in The Hobbit) and the upcoming web series ‘The Clandestine.’ Conan has literally taken the shirt off his back to give to one lucky fan! It could not be more easy to participate –  Simply visit Bolg’s official blog (Get it? Conan plays Bolg…and its a Blog…), read the entry, and come back to TheOneRing.net to fill out the form below. To find out the answer to the contest question, you will need to watch the video on Conan’s site. (Since we have a lot of rated-G visitors, I will give you a small warning that the content of the video is playfully violent. Conan is, after all, a very large imposing actor who usually plays pretty violent roles!!) The giveaway ends at midnight on May 31st so enter asap! We’ve included a gallery of the shirt at the bottom of this post as well. Good luck!

And of course, lend your support and tune in for the new web series The Clandestine!

Last Summer, as a lead up to the release of The Lord of the Rings Trilogy: Extended Edition on BluRay, TheOneRing.net was invited to participate in the official BluRay release party. TORn was responsible for facilitating the Costume Contest, with the grand prize being a Free Trip to New Zealand, hosted by WETA. As was reported then, numerous people competed in some truly wonderful costumes, but alas, only one could win, and that was The Balrog Showgirl herself, Nicole Roberts. As hosts, WETA has been documenting her visit with photos and a story, so check it out on their news page.

Exciting things are happening for Lord of the Rings fans in Boston!  The Coolidge Corner Theatre‘s annual ‘Coolidge Award’ is being given to Viggo Mortensen.  This means that Aragorn himself will be in town on Monday 5th March to accept his award!  The Coolidge Corner Theatre will be showing several of Mortensen’s movies in the run up to March 5th, as well as hosting an all day LotR trilogy marathon screening on Sunday 4th March.  On Monday 5th there will be a lunchtime movie screening with a Q&A with Mortensen, followed later by an ‘Evening with Viggo Mortensen’ event.

TORn will of course be present and will bring you a report of all these exciting happenings.  One of the more elusive cast members, any chance to see Aragorn in the flesh, and to hear Viggo Mortensen answer the questions of his fans, is a treat indeed.  Full details can be found at Coolidge Corner’s website.  The movies and dates are as follows:

Tues 28 Feb, 7pm – A History of Violence
Wed 29 Feb, 7pm – A Walk on the Moon
Thurs 1 Mar, 7pm – The Road
Sun 4 Mar, starting at 11am – LotR trilogy screening
Mon 5 Mar, starting at 12noon – a day of events with Viggo Mortensen

Our buddy Bruce Hopkins writes: I have a couple of audio clips on my RadioLIVE page that may be of interest to some of the Torn-ers. I chat with Nicole Roberts who lives in LA and won a costume competition judged by Richard Taylor and Daniel Falconer. Her prize is a trip to NZ. We also talk about the birthday celebrations for JRR Tolkien. I also have a chat which I had with Professor Alexander Gaeta who was one of the inventors of the ‘time cloak’, based on a study carried out at Cornell University. Alexander is a Tolkien fan, and so I asked him if the Elven cloaks could have been created using their amazing discovery. More..

What a great year! And things are about to get even more exciting! As we begin 2012 with anticipation that will continue to grow and grow, TORn staffer Justin takes us on a tour of all the events and activities TORn fans participated in during 2011. Read on!
