Sir Christopher Lee today received possibly the most befitting award which could be bestowed on an actor who has played Count Dracula seven times when he accepted the Bram Stoker Gold Medal in Dublin. The veteran actor, who played Dracula and other ‘Hammer Horror’ roles between the 1950s and 1970s, received the honour from the Trinity College Philosophical Society, which counts Bram Stoker amongst its past presidents.

He also played such roles as Count Dooku in three of the Star Wars films, Sarumen in the Lord of the Rings trilogy and Francisco Scaramanga in the Bond classic The Man with the Golden Gun. Lee previously held the Guinness world record for the most screen credits of any living actor with 244 acknowledged film and TV movie roles, until the record was broken by Indian actor, Brahmanandam Kanneganti. From dailyrecord.co.uk: Movie bosses are trying to ban a Scots firm from calling their holiday lodges “hobbit houses”. Microlodge UK came up with the nickname for their timber pods because they look like dwellings from the Lord Of The Rings trilogy. But lawyers for movie company Saul Zaentz – who own the film, stage and merchandising rights to the JRR Tolkien classics – have told them to remove the word “hobbit” from their website.

They fear customers will think the lodges, which are built in Methil, Fife, are endorsed by them. Microlodge co-boss Steve Millar last night branded the letter “a complete overreaction”. He said: “It’s odd that two guys from Methil could upset Hollywood.” But he said they would comply with the movie giant’s demands and take the word “hobbit” off their website.

Twitter shows a pretty steady stream of people just discovering Peter Jackson‘s Production Diary #4, originating from his own Facebook page, feeling like they have just found gold. And maybe they have with a good discussion of 3D, a tour of the cameras and rigs being used to achieve the effect and a good collection of bits of The Hobbit films. We also continue to get spy reports letting us know the video was posted. We definitely appreciate every single spy report that comes in and is the lifeblood of TheOneRing.net, but yes, we did know about the video. There are also plenty of websites still announcing the 11-minute bonanza as if it has just arrived. These clues lead us to suspect that not everybody in the world reads TheOneRing.net every day for Hobbit news (yes, we were shocked too) and not everybody has friended Peter Jackson on Facebook (it just seems like it). Anyhow, there it is above, production diary #4. While we are at it, numbers one, two and three are also available after the break. Enjoy and remember: checking TORn daily is recommended by four out of five dentists or something. Continue reading “Did you miss ‘Hobbit’ production diary #4? We didn’t”
