Our friends at the the New Zealand Casting Department for The Hobbit send this along: “The NZ Casting Department do not require any more photos or CV’s from actors who live outside NZ. They are not casting for any more roles at this stage.”

If you are a hopeful actor from outside of New Zealand, please hold off sending your CV Resume and/or Headshot for the time being. We will be sure to let you know when they are calling for more actors!

Melilot sends along word: Regarding the launch of the new book on Hilary Tolkien: It’s been canceled. Andrew Compton sent along a message to explain things – I thought you might want to know before too many people are getting their hopes up. It’s a great pity I think.

Andrew Compton writes:
“I am sorry to have to advise that despite the tremendous work and dedication to this project by Angela Gardner, Neil Holford, the Publishers, designers, artists, and financial backing by ADC Publications Ltd I have no choice but to cancel the publication of the book for legal reasons. Glen GoodKnight, founder of the Mythopoeic Society, passed away Wednesday night, November 3rd. Glen founded the Mythopoeic Society in 1967 to further the study of the writings of C.S. Lewis, Charles Williams and J.R.R. Tolkien. In 1970, he organized the first of the now famous Mythcon conventions, still going strong today. Glen was active in the Mythopoeic Society for over 30 years and edited 78 issues of the society’s journal, Mythlore.

Thanks to squire for alerting our community to the sad news via the Reading Room discussion board. In squire’s words: ” I have long admired his dedication to his life’s work: to increase the world’s awareness of the importance of modern mythmakers like Tolkien and his fellow Inklings — to break down the walls of the fantasy ghetto. We on this site, and on this board especially, owe a great debt to him, whether we know it or not. I hope others will join me in wishing him an well-earned and honored rest in the home of his longfathers.” We couldn’t have said it any better, squire. Our sincere condolences go out to to Glen’s family and friends.

Spy Nia sends in an entertaining open letter to Peter Jackson from Wired.com. It touches on a lot of concerns or thoughts that fans express every day on our message boards and with a dose of humor:

Mr. Jackson … Can I call you Peter? . . . Frankly, between the Star Wars prequels and the Matrix sequels, if it weren’t for you I would have lost my faith in the whole idea of corporate-backed blockbuster geek franchises. I’m also glad to hear about the casting, specifically that Nic Cage will not be playing Bilbo Baggins. I heard a rumor he was gunning for the part. If so, good for you for not giving in. Nic Cage is like a peanut allergy to me. I can’t even go see a movie that was processed in the same factory as a Nic Cage movie.
