Turbine has just released the first video trailer for The Lord of the Rings Online: Siege of Mirkwood, the upcoming digital expansion to the award-winning MMO, which is scheduled to launch on December 1, 2009 in North America. Siege of Mirkwood will expand the online world of Middle-earth where players will join forces to press further eastward into the dark, foreboding and treacherous forest of Mirkwood and take part in the epic conclusion to Volume II of The Lord of the Rings Online.

The adaptation of Cormac McCarthy’s book No Country for Old Men won the Oscar for best picture. So the film version of his latest novel, The Road, is much anticipated. Stephanie West reports. There is also a lot of excitement surrounding the movie because it won the Pulitzer Prize in 2007. The Road tells the story of a father and son travelling across a burned-out America, ravaged by some unspecified disaster which the reclusive author has never explained. But as the film is shown in Britain for the first time, Channel 4 News talked to its director about Cormac McCarthy’s vision. More..
The Shakespeare Theatre Company in Washington, DC, will present a one-night-only benefit performance of Sir Ian McKellen’s one-man show A Knight in Harman Hall on Oct. 29, four days after his acceptance of STC’s William Shakespeare Award for Classical Theatre. According to STC, “His solo performance weaves together stories of his early experiences in the theatre, his advocacy of GLBT rights and his more recent world-wide acclaim and film celebrity. This will be a rare opportunity to hear the personal and heartfelt story of one of the greatest living actors of stage and screen.” More..
Lord of the Rings director Peter Jackson’s new movie The Lovely Bones has been chosen for this year’s Royal Film Performance. Jackson said he is “honoured” it has been selected, adding its making has been “an extraordinary journey”. The world charity gala is due to take place in late November in London’s Leicester Square. The movie, based on Alice Sebold’s best-selling book, stars Susan Sarandon and Rachel Weisz. More..
