nullSparky sends in this link to an article about Viggo participating in a benefit reading in Portland, Oregon: “The performance, at 7:30 p.m. Monday, May 5, is sponsored by Illahee Lecture Series and encourages civic engagement and history education. The book, “Voices of a People’s History of the United States,” is edited by Howard Zinn and Anthony Arnove, and is a companion volume to Zinn’s “A People’s History of the United States.” The new volume collects the words of U.S. rabble-rousers, visionaries and maverick spirits.” Read More

Peter JacksonIt was cold and drizzling and the movie was 93 years old – but that didn’t stop hundreds turning up to watch the show. After all, this was no ordinary film. It was the only known movie images of Anzac troops at Gallipoli. Heroes of Gallipoli – which was restored by Oscar-winning Kiwi director Peter Jackson’s company – is being screened continuously on the walls of Auckland Museum from 7.30pm to 10pm before Anzac Day, on Friday. The 20-minute film is believed to have been shot by British war correspondent Ellis Ashmead-Bartlett, the only person known to have filmed the action in and around Anzac Cove from July to September 1915. Interesting news from Kristen Thompson’s blog, The Frodo Franchise:

“The Tolkien Trust and New Line are at least in talks. They have twice been able to agree on extensions in the deadline for the studio to file a response to the complaint. The two sides appear to have been in discussions since around March 7, and New Line has agreed to let the Trust look at some documents relevant to an audit, presumably regarding the income and expenses relating to the trilogy. Such moves suggest to me that both sides have some reason to believe that the case can be settled. The Trust has not filed an injunction barring New Line from beginning production on The Hobbit. The filmmakers keep hinting that the project is slowly moving toward an official start of pre-production.”

The current response date is now set for May 14. Stay tuned! Thanks to board members Compa Mighty and ArathornJax for the alert. Read More

TORN Cruise Garfeimao writes: With the opening of The WETA Cave, it was decided that a slight alteration of the Wellington day trip on the Cruise to Middle-earth should now include this intriguing shop. So, there will soon be a new itinerary posted for the land portion of the Hobbit and Wizard packages to reflect this change in Wellington. Just know that if you are thinking of going on the Cruise to Middle-earth, you will get to see The Cave.

And that reminds me, time is quickly running out on being able to book this cruise at the Group Discounted rates I have. Space is being pulled in a matter of days and then after that, the price of the cruise portion will go up to the Full Tariff Rate. Cabins will still be available, but the prices will no longer be stable and some of the group amenities may not be offered.
