Jim's Hobbit Home ShedAt least that’s what Ringer Jim decided when he built his new shed, and four and a half years later, that’s just what he’s got.

Jim said “I needed a place to put my lawn tractor and outdoor tools so I told my wife that I was going to build a shed. She said: “Fine.” Then I thought it would be pretty cool if the shed was built like a Hobbit house. When I told my wife I think she said: “You’re crazy. …”

Well crazy or not, we think it looks pretty good. So check out this unique and rather cool shed, here at Jim’s page where he shares his four and half year quest.  While you’re there why not leave a message for Jim letting him know what you think  and then head over to our message boards and tell us.

All right ringers, I told you a couple weeks ago, when profiling Weta Workshop, that the most impressive environment was going to be justaround the corner. Well, we’ve rounded the corner, and Rivendell is ready to be pre-ordered. If there was ever a must have environment this would be it!

Rivendell, the home of Elrond Half-Elven was found in 1697 of the second age where all the light of Middle Earth could go to have counsel during the darkness brought on by Sauron. Many of the most important characters of both The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings would take refuge here to rest their weary minds and bodies.  Then in 2001 Sir Peter Jackson and the amazing crew at Weta brought this critical place in Middle Earth to life. Follow the break for more images and details! Continue reading “Weta’s Rivendell Environment Pre-Order Open Now! 300 Piece Limited Run”

Do all of Bilbo’s guests now need 3D glasses to see properly in Bilbo’s home. After seeing Sir Ian McKellen sporting his new shades, we wondered this to ourselves. Or maybe it’s just the wine and ale that’s making everyone see red and blue or double?

Here’s The ‘old’ The Fellowship of the Ring Bag End in 3D! Check out these two videos with your classic 3D glasses:

The True Path of the Ninja“What business does an Elf, a Ranger and a Ninja have in the Riddermark? – Speak quickly!”  Is this a play on the famous meeting of Ẻomer and Aragon or in fact a question that rings out a connection that has never been looked at before? Is there a connection between an Elf, a Ranger of the North and the historical Ninja of feudal Japan? Indeed there is, more than most people realise.

When looking at Tolkien’s view of an Elf, especially in The Children of Húrin, we see the Elf as a silent scout, a “man” who treads where others can not and goes unseen by all, creeping, hiding and being invisible. But then so is a Ranger, Legolas and Strider are companions of skill and share their ability to journey unseen, to the comic underplay of the “clunking dwarf”. Thus, enter the Ninja! First, forget anything you know, ignore the figures screaming in black as they jump through screens and get cut down by the heroic Samurai, this is all media misunderstanding, the real and very historical Ninja of Japan were the real life Elves and Rangers of the East.
