janedragon.jpgHe’s the special effects wizard who seems to visit the Academy Awards every other year to collect an Oscar for a “Lord of the Rings” film. But it’s a gentle, animated children’s show about a Medieval knight and her goofy, fire-breathing dragon that captures most of Richard Taylor’s attention these days. Of course it doesn’t hurt that Taylor’s own preschool children are among the biggest fans of “Jane and the Dragon,” the cornerstone show of the qubo Channel, NBC’s Saturday morning block of children’s programming.

Thanks to board member diedye for sending in this article in which Taylor reveals that the eyes of Lord of the Rings actor Andy Serkis stand in for the eyes of the dragon. Read More

greattobenominated.jpgStaff member Garfeimeo writes: The Academy of Motion Pictures, Arts and Sciences is hosting a series called “Great to be Nominated” and on June 30 this will be Fellowship of the Ring. Tickets are super cheap, so get them now before they announce whomever will be on the discussion panel, which could turn out to be really cool. Read More

TORN Cruise Garfeimao writes: Space will soon be disappearing from the Cruise to Middle-earth. This cruise has been on sale since August of last year, and Celebrity is very happy with how successful it has been. But the cruise line now needs some of the space back in order to follow through with some of their own promotions. This is a standard move in the cruise industry, and I am working with Celebrity Cruises to see how much space I can still hold, and for how long.

If you have been on the fence about whether or not you would like to go on the Cruise to Middle-earth in November of this year, your time is running out!. I’ve been able to set aside a few cabins in each category, but only a very few. So strike while the iron is hot, or while I still have cabins to sell to Ringers of intelligence to go on this journey, quest, thing.

gandalf.jpgThings are looking up for those of us who are hoping to see Sir Ian McKellen return to the role of Gandalf in The Hobbit. Many of you have pointed us to the Q&A Sir Ian posted on his blog today:

“Q: Have you been approached yet by Peter Jackson or anyone else about reprising your wonderful role as Gandalf for the two upcoming “Hobbit” movies. I read that principal photography begins in 2009, and I can’t imagine those movies without you!

A: Encouragingly, Peter and Fran Walsh have told me they couldn’t imagine The Hobbit without their original Gandalf. Their confidence hasn’t yet been confirmed by the director Guillermo del Toro but I am keeping my diary free for 2009!”

Keep that calendar clear, Sir Ian! Read More
