Matamata is set for a makeover fit for a Hobbit before the cast and crew arrive for filming of the movies. Matamata Public Relations Association manager Sue Whiting says the organisation will be upgrading facilities to create a ‘Hobbit-like feel’ before the cast and crew arrive. Whiting told the Waikato Times she believed the Welcome to Hobbiton sign is the most photographed in the country, and sculptures of Lord of the Ring characters had drawn hundreds of people, so it is important to maintain them. “At the end of the day, it is all about bringing people to Matamata and creating a reason to visit,” she told the newspaper. BUDAPEST, Hungary — Hungary’s disaster management agency is testing the country’s emergency broadcast system with warnings of severe storms in Middle-earth, the fictional setting of J. R. R. Tolkien’s “The Lord of the Rings.”
Messages broadcast Wednesday mostly on state radio and television are warning Hungarians about floods and catastrophic weather in Gondor, Rohan, Rivendell, Helm’s Deep and other locations inhabited by Hobbits, Orcs, Elves, Ents and Dwarves.
Officials say they chose Tolkien’s fantasy world because they don’t want to alarm people by mentioning real locations in the test and want to gauge how effectively the emergency messages reach Hungary’s youth. [Washington Post]

The other morning in my email inbox, the weekly Weta Collectibles newsletter was sitting there waiting to be read. Of course as any fan does I opened ready to see if there was anything that I had to get into my collection. As I had hoped there was something that I will have to add as it’s really something I think you all should grab as well.
The crew from Weta has announced the ‘Disturber of the Peace‘ art print. Obviously, the name of this piece comes from when Gandalf entered Hobbiton and meets up with Frodo. Ben Wooten is the artist who is responsible for one of the best looking Lord of the Rings prints around.
