The green world of a hobbit means a 10,000 litre water tank will have to be placed near Glenorchy for the irrigation of the temporary grasses and plants on the set of the Peter Jackson-directed film The Hobbit. Wellington production company 3 Foot 7 Ltd has submitted a resource consent application to Lakes Environmental Queenstown to install the tank in order to water the greenery. The tank would be placed near Arcadia Station, where filming is set to begin this month. More..

More than 200 musicians pick up their instruments Saturday night to accompany The Lord of the Rings film “The Fellowship of the Ring.” The score, composed by Howard Shore, won both the Grammy and Academy awards. The film will be projected onto a 60-foot screen at the Honda Center in Anaheim.

morphiaflow writes: I live in Glendale, AZ and attended the premiere of the LORD OF THE RINGS—FELLOWSHIP OF THE RING symphony concert tour last night (Wednesday October 12, 2011), at the Jobbing.com Arena. I offer my thoughts on the event for any who might care.
For starters, let me state that I’m a lifelong Tolkien/LOTR fan, as well as a fan of Peter Jackson in general, AND Howard Shore—I love not just his film scores, but as a huge Saturday Night Live fan, the fact that he was a crucial part of that show in its formative years makes him an extremely interesting individual to me. So the Jackson/Shore/Tolkien association has always been a multiple win in my book.
Also, back in fall 2009 I attended the “Star Wars In Concert” tour at the same venue, which featured musical suites from all six films, with live orchestra and choir, hosted and narrated by Anthony Daniels (C-3P0). The musical selections were arranged more or less chronologically in the Star Wars saga, but sometimes linked by a theme, a character or a specific part of the story arc, and were accompanied by visuals (but not dialogue) from the Star Wars films.

Port Waikato was where Weathertop was shotthe Waikato Times is reporting:
Word on the Te Kuiti street is the hobbits are coming to town.
Crew members from the big-budget Warner Bros project have signed-in to King Country lodgings and at least one establishment is booked out with creative types from October 30 to November 6.
Talking to accommodation proprietors was a cloak-and-dagger exercise and the film’s production company, 3 Foot 7, was tight-lipped.
A contact at Panorama Motor Inn, 59 Awakino Rd, was cautious: “I don’t know if I’m allowed to tell you,” she said softly, before spilling the beans. “They’re not here yet. I can tell you we’ll have a couple on October 20, but you did not hear that from me. On the 30th we’re booked out with them.”
Motel Te Kuiti already has crew crashing in its beds after a bunch rocked up on Monday.
