Come June and Lord of the Rings fans will have much reason to celebrate, for in anticipation of the BluRay release of the Extended Editions of the Lord of the Rings films, AMC Theatres will be screening the very same director’s cuts of the films over three weeks in June.

Begin the epic journey of The Fellowship of the Ring (Extended Edition) on June 14th 2011,
experience the union of The Two Towers (Extended Edition) on June 21st 2011, and behold the end of all things with The Return of the King (Extended Edition) on June 28th 2011.

I’m not too sure where this comes from, but the video originated here on YouTube. It shows the original scripted ending with Aragorn at the Black Gate, fighting Sauron. This was in the original screenplay I received back in 1999-2000. It was conceived, story boarded, shot and edited and it almost made the final cut. However in the end Sauron was edited out and a CGI cave troll was added in. This was either done to keep in line with the books or for some other unknown reason. Take a look at what would have been!

Mr Stephen Raw is visiting the US 28 July – 12 August 2010 on a one-off visit to promote the only limited edition prints of the original drawings of the maps used in all editions since the revised version of 1994.

He is particularly interested in talking to Tolkien enthusiasts and sharing his experience of the year-long process of re-drawing the maps under the tutelage of Christopher Tolkien (see attached description from the book). He has an extensive archive of letters and faxes from Christopher while they worked on perfecting the maps which are so integral to the world depicted in ‘The Lord of the Rings’.
