Turbine welcomes the spring season today by kicking off The Lord of the Rings Online (LOTRO) in-game Spring Festival! To mark the start of the festival, Turbine has released a new batch of screenshots depicting just some of the special activities planned, including everything from new mini-games like Stomp-A-Shrew, to the popular Hedge Maze in the Shire, the Feast of the Greenfields, as well as special decorations, festive costumes, and new Ale Association quests.

There is more to see in the Spring Festival this year than ever, and plenty to keep players busy over the next month. More information about the Spring Festival can be found at www.LOTRO.com and in this developer diary. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or would like to review the game.

From IGN: You may think that Lord of the Rings games are so 2003, but you’d be wrong. Case in point, Snowblind’s action RPG The Lord of the Rings: War in the North. It’s the first M-rated game for the property and the first to make use of materials from both the novels and the films.

Adam writes: I rented the new DVD release of “Where the Wild Things Are,” and while sitting through the previews (it wouldn’t let us skip them), we came across an unexpected treat. The last preview before the main DVD menu popped up was a teaser trailer for the new cross-platform next-gen video game, “Lord of the Rings: War in the North.” It was probably about 20 seconds long, but it looked incredible. The entire thing seemed to be a cut-scene featuring a band of humans battling orcs and a troll. At the end was a screen showing the platforms (360, PS3) and a website (www.warinthenorth.com) which takes you to WB’s video game site.

Xoanon here, it seems like following the link takes you to the WB’s ‘Aragorn’s Quest’ page with the trailer below. Does this mean Aragorn’s Quest and War in the North are one and the same? Someone with knowledge please drop us a line to let us know! Continue reading “Gaming: WB’s War in the North & Aragorn’s Quest”

I normally do not post online petition links, but this one seems fairly straightforward, Jonathan sent this along: I saw that you had a story about the LOTR Conquest server shutdown (See ‘EA To Drop Online Support for LOTR:Conquest’ from Feb 17th). I play that game nonstop, we have spoken to EA and they said if we get 1000 signatures on a petition we could save the game. I was wondering if you could post another story with a link so true LOTR fans could help us out? Here’s the link. We have a semi big community if you want to check it out www.lotrconquest.proboards.com. The shutdown date is March 16th.
