Given the number of artistic people who love The Lord of the Rings it’s no surprise that a sketching tour of New Zealand should prove popular. Organized by regular LOTR tour providers Red Carpet and LOTR artist Daniel Reeve, the tours will take people around the film locations. A master watercolourist, mapmaker and calligrapher for LOTR, Narnia, King Kong and many other films, Daniel will share his skills with the October tour, leading workshops and demonstrations on the amazing landscapes used in the film. Places still remain for the sketching tour, which runs from 13-25 October. Find out More.

Have you ever wished for a place where you could be Aragorn or Galadriel (or *gasp* Sauron) for a day? Well, if you live in or near Layayette, NJ, your wish could come true! “For over a decade, a growing number of people have gathered at a Girl Scout camp in the New Jersey woods to play at being elves, dwarves and goblins for the weekend. The group, called LAIRE, or Live Action Interactive Role-playing Explorers, is one of hundreds devoted to “live-action role-playing,” or LARPing.” Thanks to Robin for alerting us to this story originally reported by Wired.com. We are now looking for someone to take centre stage on The Friday Night Project and go head to head with Elijah Wood in a quiz to see who knows the most about Lord of the Rings. The person must be a super fan, and ideally do more than just your average fan. For example, we want a fan who organises conventions in their spare time, or holds LOTR parties, or dresses up as a Hobbit, or has named their children after a Tolkien character!
The fan will be on stage with Elijah and take part in one round of quick fire questions, with the first to three winning. It is a hugely fun show, and this quiz is meant to be some light hearted fun – nothing too serious and nothing scary! If you think that you are this fan, or that you know of someone who is this fan, then please get back in touch to me ASAP. Filming is this Thursday evening in Central London. Thanks to Ian for passing this on from James. james.emtage@princesstv.com.
A tower thought to have inspired one of JRR Tolkien’s Lord Of The Rings books has opened its doors to the public for the first time in two decades. Perrott’s Folly, a 96ft (29m) high tower in Edgbaston, Birmingham, is hosting a two week art exhibition. The 250-year-old monument is thought to have provided the inspiration for the trilogy’s second book, The Two Towers. It will be open to visitors as part of a weekend of Tolkien celebrations starting on 17 May. Read More
