The deal with Thorin

Fili, Thorin, Kili, Nori, Bofur, Óin, Bombur and the rest of Dwarves on the parapet of Erebor listen to the words of Bard, Gandalf and Thranduil. Note the hair of Nori. Maybe he has forgotten the wig.

The following is pictures of Ian McKellen, Luke Evans and Lee Pace (without any make up) reciting the script.

“Come. Give us your answer. Will you have peace, or war?”, Bard asks.

Bard the leader of Men

Bard becomes the leader of the men who have survived the assault of Erebor by Smaug.

“Any Man who wants to give the last, follow me!” shouts Evans.

The Dwarves go into battle

In these pictures we can see the different Dwarves from Thorin’s company in the heat of the battle.

In some of them it seems that they are in a sort of esplanade; in other it seems they are in the guard of Ravenhill. In spite of this, in most of them it’s very difficult to know where they are because in most of the scenes they are surrounded almost exclusively by the ubiquitous chroma.

Battle previews

We also see various conceptual art sketches and previews of the battle. In the first conceptual art sketch a Dwarf is on the back of a boar that looks towards a troll covered with several orcs while the battle unfolds in the background.

[Editor’s note: some have suggested this might be Dain. If so, it’s an early design I think. Everything points to Dain’s final look actually being quite different — red hair and such.]

In the first image above we see what appears to be a horde of Orcs charging against the Elves or Men. In the second image we see a colossal troll with a sort of ‘wrecking ball’, Orcs destroying a stone wall. Yet another shows one of the Dwarven statues rolling down the mountain. Is this the result of bombardment from Orc catapults, or have the Dwarves done this on purpose to finish them off?

In the third image we see a troll taken down by several Dwarves (one of them clearly appears to be Fili), and in the fourth we see a group of Orcs storming what could be the Erebor parapet or some other wall from Ravenhill.
