New Clips from The Desolation of Smaug featuring Thranduil, Tauriel and Legolas

December 3, 2013 at 8:54 pm by Aragorn the Elfstone  -

Can’t wait to get a look at the finished film following last night’s premiere? We’ve got two clips from The Desolation of Smaug for you right here! SPOILER warning, of course.

The first one comes today from Entertainment Weekly. The clip was shown – in abridged form – last night, during Evangeline Lilly’s appearance on The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson.

The clip features Lilly and Orlando Bloom in the “It is our fight” scene that’s been repeatedly glimpsed in all the trailers.

Here’s another clip from IGN which was surfaced in lower quality a couple of weeks ago, but is now in HD quality). It’s the orc interrogation scene with Thranduil and Legolas (though this clip is a somewhat shortened version of the scene).

There was also a new clip featuring Bilbo and Gandalf, which aired right before Ian McKellen’s appearance on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart last night. Unfortunately, it would seem that the clip has been edited out of the version of the episode on The Daily Show‘s website – but I presume that it will surely find its way onto the internet sometime soon.

Of significant note in the clips, I think, is the darker color grading of this film – even compared to some of the earlier trailers from the past year. Just as we saw with The Lord of the Rings films, the color palette of each film seems to be adjusting to the darker tone of the tale.
