Ladbrokes offer odds on Hobbit film to be lord of the box office

From Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit may be a year from release but the new trailer has caused such a stir that Ladbrokes are already offering odds on it being the most successful JRR Tolkien adaptation yet.

Odds of 1/2 are being offered on the first of the two Hobbit films to be released surpassing the world box office takings of third Lord of the Rings film, Return of the King.

That film – released in December 2003 – was the highest grossing of the Lord of the Rings trilogy which took progressively more at the box office. [Read More]

    I very much doubt the article’s comment that the first Hobbit film is 3/1 to win Oscars than any other film in history. Not that I doubt PJ and Co.’s film making skills, but big budget blockbusters don’t often win best picture awards. ROTK was just a unique case. The hobbit might win something in technical categories but I think it is a bit too early to comment on such things seeing as 2012 as only just begun…
