Cardiff University LogoCardiff University is offering an on-line course on Tolkien taught in 10 weekly units by Dr Dimitra Fimi. The course has already run twice this academic year and will run once more in the summer semester 2009, starting on 27 April 2009.

The students will be able to explore Tolkien’s Middle-earth from their home, in their own time. They will examine the vast mythology behind The Lord of the Rings and gain a thorough knowledge of Tolkien’s fiction and its creation by focusing on The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings, The Silmarillion and The Children of Húrin. Mel writes: I know that many members of the Colbert Nation and TORn noticed that Anduril was hanging on Stephen Colbert’s wall during the Christmas special (it was reported here within hours, after all). I pulled up TORn this morning, however, expecting to see the newest development, but nothing. . .yet! On the off chance no one else saw this and squealed with delight, Stephen was “knighted” by Queen Noor of Jordan last night with none other than Anduril! He twice started to say, “I got this from–“ but was cut off. I assumed he was talking about the sword. I don’t know if he was going to tell the truth, or finish it with: “–Lord Elrond himself!”

Ok Colbert…if you are THAT big a fan..you must come to TORN…so drop us a line already!

Jazmine writes: Picture the setting. Rolling green hills, blossom-shrouded trees, winding lanes, daffodils dancing merrily all around. Where might this scene be unfolding? The Shire perhaps? Almost. The Cotswolds, England, in the heart of Tolkien’s Shire, the land that inspired the creation of the hobbity homeland we have all come to know and love.

This is the setting for an annual Tolkien event that is not to be missed. At the marvellous Redesdale Hall, in the pretty village of Moreton-in-Marsh, arrives Lands of Enchantment, the 2009 Tolkien inspired Art Exhibition. Here you will find original artwork on display from the likes of Tolkien veteran Ted Nasmith, and the wonderful variety provided by the works of Ruth Lacon, Jef Murray and Peter Pracownik. Adnuin LetterAaron N brings us the sad news: The answer you have been waiting for on the River Anduin is not what you’d like to hear. I am afraid The Geographic Board are no fun when it comes to Tolkien.
