From CrispyGamer.com: With Pandemic behind the reins, will The Lord of the Rings: Conquest just be Star Wars: Battlefront with different uniforms?

Having already told the entire tale in videogame form, EA is now looking at new ways of retelling the epic saga that was Peter Jackson’s masterful movie version of J.R.R. Tolkien’s “The Lord of the Rings.” Thankfully, the software giant has opted not to make an arcade-style kart-racing game, but has instead charged Pandemic Studios — makers of the Battlefield-esque Star Wars: Battlefront series — with the task of making The Lord of the Rings: Conquest, a similarly massive multiplayer game out of the fantasy film. Though according to Sean Soucy, the game’s lead designer, Conquest won’t just be Battlefront with Elves instead of Ewoks. The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the Game

Ostadan writes: OK, this is pretty geeky even my my standards, I have come across an announcement for a lecture, in Esperanto, on ‘The Sources of The Lord of the Rings’ by Anna Lowenstein, which will take place in the ‘virtual world’ of ‘Second Life’ on Sunday, 15 June, at 20:00 GMT (1pm Pacific).

Second Life…Esperanto…Tolkien.

I don’t think you can get much more esoteric. Oh well, I’ll probably be there…

How you might ask? Well, Christopher Lee has some theories of his own in Empire’s complete article.

Guillermo Del Toro 2Director Guillermo del Toro recently posted a ‘heads up’ to Tolkien fans in TheOneRing.net’s forum. In the post, Del Toro outlines why his upcoming film ‘Hellboy II’ and last year’s ‘Pan’s Labyrinth’ should not necessarily serve as examples of the tone and theme of the upcoming ‘Hobbit’ films.

It is my dearest hope that this message will prevent speculation of what in “Pan’s Labyrinth” or “Hellboy II” will indicate what the HOBBIT will be. In time there will be definite aesthetic choices that will guide the film towards a yuxtaposition of PJ’s and my visual proclivities but I think it will only be visible in retrospect and it would be almost impossible -and rather perverse- to try and divine it at this stage.

The post is a lot more extensive than that simple quote, so jump on over to our forum to read the complete entry! And isn’t it great to have Guillermo participating so early in our community? [Forum]
