See any similarities? We sort of do! Could this other Hobbit be Geoffrey Hughes?

Ringer fan Dave sends us this info:

A recent development identified Timothy Bartlett as the hobbit on the left. As for the hobbit on the right, his face has been haunting me for a while. I’m not certain but he reminds me of an actor who I’ve seen in many a UK TC program. I can’t give you a name but I can tell you what he’s been in.

Going back a bit he was in Coronation St as Hilda Ogden’s lodger Eddy Yates (I think).

Then he was in Keeping Up Appearances as the brother in law of Mrs Bucket (pronounce Bouquet).

Most recently he’s been seen as Vernon Scripps in Heartbeat, general entrepreneur and brother of local garage owner and undertaker Bernie Scripps.

After much searching while writing this email I’ve just found his name, which is Geoffrey Hughes.

See the following link to the Heartbeat cast for a picture to compare. The character your looking for is Vernon Scripps.

Thanks Dave for the heads up and we’ll get back to everyone with confirmation as soon as possible!

I was watching the Independent Film Channel (a channel on digital cable and satellite dishes) last night and they said that they were going to have full coverage on all the events for the whole week.

If you recall, we released an image of two hobbits sitting on a wall in Hobbiton on Monday. [Here] Thanks to a very observant Ringer fan Sam, we now have a name for one of the faces. The hobbit on the left (our left) is Timothy Bartlett, a Wellington (NZ) stage actor best known for playing Bernie Leach on Shortland Street. [More]

UPDATE

Ringer James sends in some more info about Timothy Bartlett :

Just to add another snipper regarding Timothy Bartlett, before he was on Shortland Street he was best known for presenting the children’s TV show “Play School”. This show has something of a cult following in New Zealand, and Kiwis aged 20-30 would no doubt remember Timothy fronting the show.

Francesco Alo over at the Italian LOTR site Caltanet Cinema got a wonderful interview with Christopher Lee (Saruman) at the Verona Film Festival. Bear with the translation – the questions are good and Lee’s answers give you a sense of just how much he loves the Rings. [More]

When asked about accents, check out his answer: “No accents. I speak normally. There are British actors, Australian actors, New Zealand actors, American actors. And actresses of course. We all speak english without accents.” I know this isn’t going to make sense to a lot of you…… : D
