From Sam to Frodo

by: Lydwina Marie

I imagine Sam thinking this to Frodo at Mount Doom, when Frodo claims the Ring for himself. I originally entitled this poem “Fear”.

I look at you — in your face —
and sadness fills my heart.
You will not fight for what is true,
your face speaks more than words.

I know I can’t force you to do
what, above all things, I should;
Fear has overpowered your heart,
and shivering, accosts your soul.
