The One Ring™: Adventures over the Edge of the Wild, the fantasy roleplaying game set in the world of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings will hit store shelves in the US and UK on October 12, 2011. Published by Cubicle 7 Entertainment in partnership with Sophisticated Games, it had a very successful debut in Indianapolis’ GenCon in August. The core product totals 336 pages plus 7 dice and 2 poster maps, and carries a suggested retail price of $59.99.
The One Ring is set in the years following the events of The Hobbit, and focuses on the area of Middle-earth known as Wilderland: the eastern Misty Mountains through Mirkwood to the Lonely Mountain. Characters featured in the initial release include the wood elves of Mirkwood include the dwarves of the Lonely Mountain, the Woodmen of western Mirkwood, the Bardings of Dale, Beornings, and hobbits who have ventured into the region after Bilbo’s return to the Shire. Future core game releases will expand both the geographic scope of the game and the timeline of events as they lead toward the War of the Ring.
