Ringer Spy TheKnight writes: The renowned Italian Ischia Film Festival 2005 will be hosting as guest speakers Oscar Award winning LOTR conceptual designers and illustrators Alan Lee and John Howe who will be present for a round table discussion regarding the role of natural settings in film at the Castello Aragonese on Saturday 25 June, at 10:00 a.m. With them will be other pluri-award winning Oscar professionals in the field such as Sir Ken Adams, Vittorio Storaro, Osvaldo Desideri and Andrea Crisanti. TheOnering.net and Hall of Fire is pleased to announce it will be hosting a special Q&A chat with LoTR stunt and body-double Kiran Shah on Saturday June 18 from 5.30 EDT.
In Lord Of The Rings, Kiran doubled as – and did stunts for – all four of the main hobbits at one time or another. He worked most closely with Elijah Wood, doubling for Frodo.
Kiran, born in Nairobi in 1956, broke into show business in the 1970s and has been working ever since. His first film in 1976 was Candleshoe standing-in for a girl called Sara Tamakuni. On location, stunt coordinator Bob Anderson, asked Kiran to do stunts for Sara.
On the same film while being at Pinewood Studios Kiran was spotted by a producer John Dark who asked him to audition for a film The People That Time Forgot for a small part. Since appearing in this film playing Bolum, Kiran has appeared in various films, television productions, commercials and videos.
Just a few of his notable credits include: Titanic, Interview with the Vampire, Braveheart, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Legend, The Indiana Jones Trilogy, Aliens I and II, Return of the Jedi, The Dark Crystal and Superman I and II.
He will also appear as the White Witch’s evil offsider, Ginarrbrik, in the adaptation of CS Lewis’s The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe later this year.
Kiran also writes poetry, his work has been published in Britain and America. His poems are based on his thoughts and feelings about the places he has been and the experiences he has had. He has written film scripts and currently is working with his nephew Chaitan on a script. He hopes one day these scripts will be produced.
Kiran will be answering questions about his work in Lord of the Rings as well as his other films. He may – non-disclosure agreements permitting – even answer some questions about Narnia.

Is it the themes they encapsulate? Good and evil? Respect for nature? Implicit religious aspects and pseudo-mysticism? Or is just because – at heart – they’re quintessential quest tales where you can tune in, watch the good guys beat up the bad guys, and witness the triumph of the little guy against seemingly insurmountable odds?
Do they have fundamentally different audiences, or is there an overlap?
And what sort of effect have they had on their fans and on popular culture in general? Are they truly universal in nature, or do we overestimate their impact on the collective consciousness?
And which will prove more enduring? Indeed, can we expect that in 50 or a hundred years people will still care about LoTR or Star Wars, or will they have faded from consciousness totally?
