The author will argue that Tolkiens original treatment of battles provides a very different picture than the films or video games present, by addressing such questions as What is Gandalfs real power and why does he display it only on rare instances?, What is the essential power of the one ring and why do characters reject it?, and Does Tolkien glorify war and violence?

Irascian writes: I thought youd appreciate these two pictures for those fans whove purchased seats through the Embassy Theatre Trust. One shows the typical name tag, but with a name many might recognise half the fun of the naming is the way famous names are intermingled with those of ordinary fans. Ive also attached a copy of the Roll of honour which appears twice wrapped around each of two columns in the upstairs entrance area. Verdict on the refurbishment: fantastic job making this a fantastic cinema I wish my local was like this. The seats are the most comfortable Ive sat in, the sound system is awesome and the screen, apparently specified by PJ himself, is huge and clear. [More]
