FOR IMMEDIATE RELASE

NEW LINE CINEMA ACQUIRES MAJOR LORD OF THE RINGS FANSITE

New Line Cinema, has purchased the rights and ownership duties to the US/Canada/New Zealand based website THEONERING.NET effective immediately.

THEONERING.NET and New Line were in talks for the past 2 months negotiating the details of the purchase which include the following:

THEONERING.NET domain name will now change to LOTRMOVIE-THEONERING.NET, the entire website will be re-designed to incorporate aspects from the offcial LORD OF THE RINGS website and the New Line Store, which sells merchandise from LORD OF THE RINGS as well as other New Line films. As a direct result of the takeover, the official PETER JACKSON faclub will change names from ‘THE BASTARDS HAVE LANDED’ to ‘THE OFFICIAL NEW LINE CINEMA PETER JACKSON FANCLUB’.

Effective immediately, webmasters and staff members on THEONERING.NET will be incorporated and hired by New Line Cinema. The main focus of the site will now be more of a merchandise vendor for LORD OF THE RINGS related merchandise. THEONERING.NET will also manage and maintain a weekly newsletter which will include interesting items eager LORD OF THE RINGS fans can purchase using secure online transactions.

THEONERING.NET was originally forged by the combined vision of the four founding members in May of 1999. During the preceding month, an interest in Tolkiens work and the Lord of the Rings movies conspired to bring Calisuri, Xoanon, Tehanu, and Corvar together to create TORn. The diverse backgrounds and locations of the founding members contributes heavily in what TORn has become.

Founded in 1967, New Line Cinema is the entertainment industry’s leading independent producer and distributor of theatrical motion pictures. New Line licenses its films to ancillary markets including cable and broadcast television as well as to international venues. The company, which is a subsidiary of AOL Time Warner Inc., operates several divisions including in-house theatrical distribution, marketing, home video, television, acquisitions, production, licensing and merchandising units.

!!!!APRIL FOOLS!!!! WORLDWIDE

The meeting was as long as a Tolkien trilogy when it could’ve been a 10-minute short story.

For those who like to skip straight to the last page, Wellington city councillor Mary Varnham will accompany Mayor Mark Blumsky to New York this month at a cost to ratepayers of about $14,250. [More]

There’s been some new developments at the Assassin Films website Searching for the Hobbit. For a start, the website is now offering free access to everything including the ‘making of’ documentary downloads. Producer Mark Morgan said “At the moment because of the hype surrounding the LOTR films and all the upcoming merchandising, we felt that we did not want to be seen as yet another commercial entity capitalising on the author’s works. We have therefore made the site free so everybody has the opportunity to take part in and view the documentary in progress.”

Regular visitors to the site will remember that ”Searching for the Hobbit” is a documentary being made to celebrate the world of Tolkien fandom and Hobbit culture worldwide. Visitors to the site have the chance to download clips from interviews that the ‘Hobbit’ team have conducted with an ever-growing range of people whose lives and work have been influenced by JRRT.

This is such a huge subject to cover that they have decided to make another change to the website. What used to be the Inspiration Room has been renamed the Gallery and focuses on ‘Rings’-inspired artwork. A new Inspiration Room will be set up where visitors are invited to share their personal (and true!) stories with other Tolkien fans. Morgan hopes that people will talk about their own Search for the Hobbit. “When did you last visit Middle-earth?” he asks. So far this question has produced some beautiful stories from all kinds of people.

The very best stories might form the basis for further interviews when the ‘Search for the Hobbit’ continues.
