Harry Potter’s magic was not enough to beat the ‘Lord of the Rings’ trilogy in a new list of Britain’s favourite children’s book adaptation. The movies based on JRR Tolkien’s literary series of the same name, emerged the winner in the poll taken to find which book’s adaptation kids liked best. The movies based on JK Rowling’s books came next in line at the second spot. Bulgarian readers placed The Lord of the Rings by JRR Tolkien, The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho, and Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone by J.K.Rowling at the top three spots in a survey of the fifteen books of all times. A total of 28,000 readers voted for their favorite book in the poll carried out by Helicon bookstores, abandoning renowned literature classics at the bottom of the ranking. Specifically, included will be Thror’s Map from The Hobbit, Topographical View of Minas Tirith from The Return of the King, and Notes on Times and Distances by J.R.R. Tolkien (all of the John P. Raynor, S.J. Library, Marquette University).

NEW YORK — Harry vs. Frodo. Lucy vs. Lyra. We don’t normally think of classic fantasy series as being pit against one another, because despite their differences, they have so much in common. Most of them are about little people (be they children or Hobbits) caught up in a war of good versus evil that requires a singular sacrifice to save the world, often with a bit of biblical allegory thrown in for good measure.
